Daily Inspiration: Meet Stephanie Chambers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Chambers.

Hi Stephanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When my kids were little, I wanted a fun way to get them moving and excited about running. Running was an essential part of my growth as a person, and I wanted to give them that gift. I didn’t think that sending them out on runs would be the best way to do that, so I recruited friends and we played games that involved running. Eventually this group grew and we added races as part of the fun.
After a few years of this, we expanded to three seasons with different focuses: Fall Cross Country, Spring Track , and Summer Run Club. We now serve around 800 kids a year and have 12 teams across Northern Utah.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The growth of Velocity running club has been on an upward trend from the beginning. But that’s not to say that it’s been smooth. There have been some difficulties in securing venues, convincing people not to be so competitive with their kids (it can ruin the desire), and in figuring out how to grow without loosing the soul and purpose of Velocity.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a mom, a coach and a non-profit director. I also do marketing for a running company. I’m proud of introducing my kids to the sports of cross country and track and field, and I’m happy to have brought other kids along for the journey. I love seeing how running makes a difference in people’s lives. And I love the community that running together builds for coaches, kids and their families. Cross Country and Track and Field are positive sports, where you can cheer for others and still compete hard!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the outdoors and the people. I would like more green space, dedicated to running and track and field.
