Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Williams.
Hi Aubrey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started photography at 16 years old, taking senior and creative portraits for my friends for free! As time went on, I starting charging $50, then $100 and so on doing portraits. The summer after graduating high school I shot my first wedding, and I fell in love with it! I photographed everything throughout college, seniors, engagements, families, babies, weddings, etc. After graduating and then having my first child, I decided to really value my time and just do couples and wedding/elopements. The second I did that, my business really took off!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! I moved states twice during my 10 years, and I had to start from scratch with clients both times. This always means a pay cut, and doing collaborations o try and get others to recommend me. As well as marketing in a new area online. There was also a huge life change when I had my first child! I think I did 5 weddings that year and it was a big adjustment to figure out work with a baby.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional wedding and elopement photographer! I am known for being very organized and making a wedding day feel like a wedding day, not a 10 hour long photoshoot. I am very fast with group photos and portraits, allowing my clients to have as much time with their guests as possible!
With my 10 years of experience, I am able to help my clients plan their days, pick vendors, and find the best locations for their sessions! I am here to help! I have only 5 star reviews and there is a reason, I know how to read a room and get what my clients want. Every wedding is so personal and custom.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think it is so important to take risks! It is really hard to grow without trying out different things. The biggest risk I’ve taken was when I cut out all types of clients aside from couples. I was so nervous I wouldn’t make as much money. Quite the opposite happened! When people look for a wedding photographer, they want an expert in that field. They don’t want someone who does everything! I made about twice as much my first year I switched.
Another recent risk I’ve taken is hiring a team of photographers to shoot for me! It is so nerve racking to put your brand at the hands of other people. But I knew I could not keep up with my demand alone. And again, this risk worked out for me wonderfully.
