Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Myrick.
Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Hurricane Theatrical with my High School music teacher when I was 19 years old. It was a theatre company built on the love of the art form. That is the legacy of Hurricane Theatrical–the love of the art form. It is our mission to create excellence on stage through the hard work and dedication of all of those involved. I believe that is what has sustained us as a successful company. We don’t do theatre for fun, we do theatre because we love how it makes us feel, grow, become better at our craft, and how it touches others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything bigger than oneself is always a challenge. I do look back over these past 17 years with pride as I recall how far we’ve come as a team and all we have learned and changed and become better at. But, that doesn’t mean we don’t continue to learn and grow and adjust to new situations. But, I am also very happy how we continue to improve with each production, season and year with the incredible team I have surrounded myself with.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I found theatre and performing as a high school student. I was a baseball player, but all of the girls were in choir and theatre so that’s where I found myself. I haven’t stopped theatre since that first taste 2o years ago. I started as a performer, but I am now a director, producer and technical artist. It’s a different side of theatre than from when I began, but I love it just as much. I am also an educator of theatre and have my Master’s of Education. I love sharing my passion for the arts with my students hoping to instill my excitement for the art with them. I think that the only thing that sets me apart from others may be that I have an energizer battery inside of me powered by passion for hard work and achieving the best that I can. It never stops. I want the best for my shows and performers and technicians and that fuels me to keep going harder every day.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My passion for greatness. It is a fleeting objective that is continually just out of reach and it motivates me greatly to know that I need to strive to be better at my craft every day.
