Daily Inspiration: Meet Austin Lamoreaux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Lamoreaux.

Hi Austin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started in the mountains. I grew up on the East Coast and spent a large part of my early life pursuing snowboarding professionally. That experience shaped a lot of who I am today—the work ethic, the willingness to take risks, and probably most importantly, an appreciation for the people you surround yourself with.

Eventually, I found myself more interested in what was happening behind the camera. Photography started as something personal, but over time it became my career. That led me from shooting into directing and producing, and eventually into working on larger commercial productions with brands, athletes, agencies, and creative teams across a pretty wide range of industries.

As my career progressed, I realized I was just as interested in building the team and the environment around the work as I was in creating the images themselves. I love the creative side, but I also love bringing the right people together, developing an idea, solving the logistical problems, and figuring out how to turn something ambitious into something real.

That ultimately led to founding KAST Studios. KAST started from the idea of building the kind of creative company I always wanted to be part of, one that takes the work seriously without losing sight of the people making it. Today, we’re building KAST beyond a traditional production company and into a full service creative agency capable of developing ideas, assembling specialized teams, and executing campaigns from concept through final delivery.

I still shoot and direct, and I don’t think I’ll ever completely step away from making images. But these days, I’m equally excited about building the company, creating opportunities for other talented people, and seeing how far we can push KAST. In a lot of ways, it still feels like we’re at the beginning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not all smooth, and I think a lot of the struggles ultimately shaped what KAST is becoming today.

One of the hardest periods was building the foundation of a creative agency while still working a full-time corporate job. For a while, I was essentially working two careers at once. I would spend the day at my job and then use nights, weekends, and whatever time I had left to shoot, build relationships, develop the business, and figure out what KAST could eventually become.

At the same time, working in a corporate environment taught me a tremendous amount. I saw firsthand how important company culture and leadership are, especially when managing creative people. There were moments where I watched incredibly talented people feel undervalued or disrespected, and that had a big impact on me. It helped define not only the kind of company I wanted to build, but the kind of leader I wanted to become.

I wanted KAST to have high standards without sacrificing how people are treated. I believe you can demand exceptional work while still creating an environment built around trust, respect, opportunity, and genuinely enjoying the people you work alongside.

There have been long days, uncertainty, financial risk, mistakes, and plenty of learning as we’ve built the company. But I think that’s also what makes building something meaningful exciting. Every difficult experience has helped clarify what we want KAST to stand for. We’re still learning and still building, and I don’t think that part ever really stops.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
KAST is a creative agency specializing in all forms of commercial advertising, from creative development, production through photography, film, and post production.

My work started as a commercial photographer but has evolved into being an Executive Producer and film director, creative development, and building KAST alongside my co-founder, Kyle Lieberman.

Kyle is an incredible director of photography and photographer, and his creative perspective is a huge part of what KAST is becoming. We don’t always see an idea the same way, and that’s one of our strengths. We challenge each other, approach problems differently, and ultimately make the work stronger because of it.

What I’m most proud of is the culture we’re building around the work. KAST isn’t meant to revolve around Kyle or me. We’re building an agency where talented people can come together, feel respected and supported, and create exceptional work.

I think what sets us apart is that balance, high creative standards, meticulous preparation, and a genuine investment in the people behind the work. We want KAST to be a place that both clients and creatives are excited to be part of.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always pretty independent, competitive, and probably a little obsessive when I became interested in something. I grew up on the East Coast, and the mountains became a huge part of my life early on. Snowboarding eventually became something I pursued professionally, and for a long time it was the center of my world.

I was always drawn to things that involved creativity, risk, and figuring out my own way of doing something. Snowboarding reinforced that, it taught me discipline and resilience, but it also taught me to look at an environment differently and see possibilities that other people might not immediately notice.

I’ve also always been very visual. I paid attention to landscapes, architecture, clothing, cars, people, and the small details of how things looked and felt. Eventually, photography gave me a way to capture that perspective.

Even now, one of my favorite things to do is grab a film camera and skateboard through New York City with nowhere specific to be. There’s something about moving through the city, observing people and documenting whatever catches my eye that brings me back to my roots. There’s no client, no shot list, and no expectation—it’s just about making photographs because I love making photographs.

A lot has changed since then, but personality wise I don’t think I’m that different. When I care about something, I tend to go all in. The difference now is that I’ve learned how much more you can accomplish when you surround yourself with great people and build something together.
