Today we’d like to introduce you to Lize Guerin.
Hi Lize, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to travel, people, and experiences. I grew up in Leeuwarden in the Netherlands, and my first big international trip was to Jordan when I was 12. Seeing Petra for the first time completely opened my eyes to how big the world was, and I think that curiosity has shaped almost every decision I’ve made since.
I went on to study International Hospitality Management and later earned a master’s degree in International Business. My career took me around the world. I lived in five countries and worked in luxury hospitality in London, Athens and the U.S., including as a St. Regis Butler at The Lanesborough in London and in hotel operations and guest relations. I eventually moved into events and sales, then spent years in the travel industry before transitioning into tech sales at Zoom.
Along the way, travel remained a huge part of my life. I’ve now visited more than 40 countries, but I’ve always been just as interested in finding the lesser-known experience, local favorite or unexpected adventure as I am in seeing the major sights. I’m the person who researches everything before a trip, builds the itinerary and wants to know what is actually worth the time and money.
Then, in 2023, I was laid off from Zoom. At the time it felt like a huge disruption, but it ultimately pushed me toward something I had wanted to build for myself.
I started creating content more seriously and eventually built Concierge Adventures around something I was already doing naturally: researching, trying and sharing experiences so other people don’t have to spend hours figuring out what’s worth it.
When our family moved from Denver to Salt Lake City in 2024, that idea really began to take shape. I was discovering Utah myself, so I started sharing the places we were finding, from hikes and hidden gems to weekend getaways, family activities and experiences I genuinely thought were worth doing. At the same time, I continued sharing our travels around the U.S. and internationally.
Somewhere along the way, it became much bigger than simply posting pretty places. I realized people were following because they trusted me to do the research first.
That’s really what Concierge Adventures is today. I’m a mom of two, a traveler, a content creator and someone who has spent most of my career in hospitality, travel and sales. I use all of those pieces of my background to help busy people spend less time researching and more time actually experiencing things.
The journey hasn’t been perfectly linear. I’ve changed countries, industries and careers, navigated a layoff, raised a family and essentially started over professionally in my late 30s. Now, as I turn 40, I actually feel like I’m building something that brings all of those seemingly unrelated chapters together.
My goal with Concierge Adventures is simple: I do the research, try the experience and share what I genuinely think is worth your time, money and vacation days. Whether that’s a hidden spot in Utah, a family trip through Europe or an experience people might never have discovered otherwise, I want someone to see my content and think, “Okay, I can actually do this.”
And I think that’s the part I’m most excited about. It still feels like I’m just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. There have been a lot of pivots along the way.
One of the biggest was being laid off from Zoom in 2023. I had spent years building a career in hospitality, travel, sales and then tech, so suddenly finding myself without that traditional career path was difficult. It also happened during a season of life when I was raising two daughters at very different ages, so there was a lot to juggle personally while trying to figure out what was next professionally.
We moved from Denver to Salt Lake City in 2024, which meant starting over in a new city and rebuilding a community while I was also trying to turn content creation into an actual business. Social media can look very glamorous from the outside, but behind the scenes there is a huge amount of work, uncertainty and trial and error. You can spend hours creating something that goes nowhere, then post something you almost didn’t share and suddenly millions of people see it.
One of my biggest struggles has been learning not to measure progress only by numbers. Followers, views and brand deals can fluctuate so much. I’ve had content reach millions of people and other content I was really proud of completely flop. Building something from scratch has forced me to get comfortable experimenting, failing publicly and continuing anyway.
I’ve also had to learn how to value my work. Going from a corporate career with a salary to creating your own opportunities is a completely different mindset. There have been plenty of moments where I’ve questioned whether I should go back to a more traditional career.
But the harder seasons have also given me much more clarity about what I want. I want to build a life and career that gives me room for my family, travel, creativity and the experiences that matter to me.
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t think I would have built Concierge Adventures without the detours.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Concierge Adventures is about making travel and local adventures easier. I do the research, try the experiences and share what I genuinely think is worth your time, money and vacation days.
I specialize in Utah and Salt Lake City adventures, family travel, hidden gems and practical travel guides. I’m known for taking hours of research and turning it into easy, useful content, whether that’s a quick Reel, cheat sheet or itinerary.
What sets me apart is my background. I spent more than 15 years working in hospitality, travel, events and sales before becoming a creator, so I look at experiences differently. I’m not afraid to share what I’d skip or do differently, either. Trust is really important to me.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built. Some of my content has reached millions of people, but the messages from someone who planned a trip, booked an experience or discovered a new place because of something I shared mean much more to me.
I also work with hotels, destinations and brands creating short-form travel and lifestyle content that feels useful and authentic rather than like an ad.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always curious, independent and adventurous, but I was also a huge researcher. Before the internet, it was books, projects and anything I could get my hands on. Then when we got internet when I was around 11 or 12, I was fascinated by how much information was suddenly available. I would literally dial in and spend hours researching things. There was even an article in our local newspaper about me using the internet for research, which is pretty funny looking back now.
Travel and tennis were also a huge part of my life. I’ve been a competitive tennis player for as long as I can remember, and I still compete today. I eventually became a tennis coach as well. Travel started early too. Visiting Jordan and Petra when I was 12 really stuck with me, and at 17 I moved to Turkey for six months.
Looking back, so much of what I do now was already there: the curiosity, the research, the competitiveness, the independence and the need to experience things for myself. I’ve basically always been the person researching everything, finding something interesting and then wanting to tell everyone else about it. The technology has just gotten a little faster since dial-up!
