Today we’d like to introduce you to Misdemeanor.
Hi Misdemeanor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The band initially started in 2022 with Ty Spilman Boston Jones, max Marston and gibson mcmullin, we were really inspired by green day and blink and all the classic pop punk and punk bands like the offspring and sum 41. we played our first show December 9th 2022 and The Boardwalk winter battle of the bands. We continued playing with us 4 until mid 2023 when Boston left for creative differences, we played out the end of the year with the three of us, but in early 2024 Gibson and Max parted ways with the project. The band was revitalized in July of 2024 when Drew Postma and Dash Hornbeck joined. After that we released our single ‘Pretty girls make me nervous ‘ and spent most of 2024 practicing and writing some material. 2025 was where we really found our stride, we entered our highschool battle of the bands and won our local and multi regional completions, and headlined the local event Alt Fest and opened up for Riffwood at the 2025 catalyst music festival, and released our 3rd studio single ‘Re-Run’. That summer we were just taking any show we were offered from backyard shows to venues to barn shows etc etc. We got to open up for poolhouse on their Tour for Poor Kids, and open for Chudson on their 2025 summer tour. But it’s been a ride, in August we started recording our Christmas EP and our singles Wasted and Oh Kathryn at the davis catalyst center and we opened for the 2025 valhallaween in October which was such a fun show and later headlines our first Misdemas toy drive charity concert. In 2026 we began recording our debut album modern sellout and playing the 2026 catalyst festival. The craziest thing that happened was when we checked our Instagram dms and saw that Sierra Lyman had messaged us and asked us to open for the utah stop of the summer school tour. We were super stoked on it because the lineup was tons of bands that we loved and listened to so it was such an honor to be able to do that and meet all them, then In August we did our first ever tour with our friends Open Trench from Colorado and that was super sick too. Right now we’re just trying to finish up our album and get ready for the next big thing!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We’ve definitely had some speed bumps with creatine differences between some of the original members, but we’ve been super lucky to be a part of such a great scene and weve been able to meet a lot of people that have just made it for the most part a pretty smooth journey
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think what really sets us apart is our performances. We don’t like to take ourselves too seriously and prefer to just have a good time on stage, for us it’s an excuse to joke around with a live audience and play some music. Another thing especially here in Utah, at the time of when we started at least, was there was a lot of over saturation in the musical scene in Utah so we were able to stand out. We also have MisdeBoy who is our stage character who fights people during our set and really brings the crowd into it.
How do you think about luck?
I think weve been really lucky to have such a good fanbase, all the support we’ve gotten has really helped us to grow. We were super lucky to get on the radar of the summer school tour and just recently we were able to go hang out with the paradox at their Utah stop because of a reel we did but it’s just been awesome all the things that weve been able to do and were super lucky to be where we are now!
