Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan McKell.
Hi Morgan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hello, my name is Morgan McKell. And for the last 10 years, I’ve been an entrepreneur. About 10 years ago, I founded a cell phone repair company in Utah. We grew that to 14 locations across three states. One of the reasons for our success was our social media marketing initiatives.
We started our online marketing by hiring a local company. While working with them, I was introduced to our account manager, Makoa Scholes. After our time working with them for advertising, we brought all marketing efforts in-house. I continued to stay in touch with Makoa.
After I sold that company, the question always was “What’s next?” And that’s when I decided to start a Digital Marketing Agency. I knew I needed a lead creative. Someone to fulfill the services that made a difference for small business owners. By a stroke of luck, Makoa reached out and let me know he was a full-time freelancer. I knew Makoa was the guy needed to launch Monarch Social.
Monarch Social Brand was founded by me, Morgan McKell, and Makoa Scholes in January of 2019. When the two of us started, we offered only two services. PPC & Videography. We worked from the living room of my house. Then eventfully, secured an office in downtown Salt Lake City. Over the next year, we focused on sales and bringing on accounts.
Now, (fall 2021) we have two Locations; SLC & Pocatello, and have eight team members and offer over eight key marketing services. We are also the Hosts of The Monarch Social Podcast, where we discuss all things digital media marketing. We have also been guest speakers at numerous events and continue to grow as one of Utah’s premier Marketing agencies. Makoa had an extensive resume filled with videography, Facebook ads, PPC, and even design. So naturally, he is the lead creative and the Head of all Fulfillment at Monarch.
My background and passion is entrepreneurship and business. I oversee all sales and processes and drive the bigger vision for Monarch. We look forward to seeing what the future holds and are excited to see just how big we can make our amazing company from such humble beginnings.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Over the last 2+ years, we have encountered all sorts of “bumps” in the road. Everything from hiring the right people to cultivating strong company culture. Growing pains have been an ongoing challenge for us. On one hand, we want to take on multiple accounts, but on the other hand, we need to have our processes nailed down to be able to scale.
We also went through the pandemic as a new start-up. We had to learn how to pivot and still offer quality services and get our client’s results to stay alive and make payroll and pay office rent. I truly don’t feel any start-up has a smooth road. There will always be something to overcome and face head-on.
As you know, we’re big fans of Monarch Social Brand. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Monarch Social, we drive conversions through highly optimized social media ad campaigns, custom professional videography, and beautifully designed websites. we offer:
- Websites
- Website Hosting
- Web Management
- SEO
- PPC
- Videography
- Photography
- Content Management
A few of the things that separate us as an agency, is that we are always trying new things. We host events. We sponsor athletes, podcasts, and other content creators. Also, I’m really proud that we have our own podcast where we give great insight into owning an agency and also give out quality information to business owners. I like to think our agency is the “hip” “cool” and “young” agency to work with.
I think of all those things as providing value like other agencies are not doing. And also as great lead gen for us.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
For whatever reason, SLC has been a hotbed for entrepreneurship. There are so many resources here for that type of lifestyle. There are so many small businesses here that make the city awesome, I love that about being downtown. I also really love how Salt Lake City is becoming more and more diverse and inclusive. There’s a spot for everyone here.
And obviously being close to the mountains and outdoors is great. Salt lake is so central to some really awesome views and locations.
