Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Hirschi.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was studying business at USU while working a job for several summers at Bear Lake at a boat rental shop.
The owner of the rental company was getting pushed out of the resort he had established his business at, so he suggested I buy some of his rental equipment and start a new location at Bear Lake, which I did. I started my business in 1998 with 2 employees and six Jet skis.
Now, I have five locations at Bear Lake, one location in Midway, over 100 Jet skis to rent, 50+ boats and watercraft, 75 snowmobiles, 50 ATV/UTV’s, and a total of 65 employees. We’ve become the largest concessionaire for the Utah State Parks providing recreational equipment rentals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many challenges along the way. One thing I’ve learned is to just stick with it, and most of the time the setbacks and challenges will make you stronger in the long run.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We provide quality outdoor recreational equipment rentals including jet skis, boats, paddleboards, ATV/UTV’s, and snowmobiles. At our Midway, Utah location we specialize in super fun guided tours at the Wasatch Mountain State Park year-round. We’re the largest recreational equipment company in Utah with six locations.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Since Covid hit, anything outdoors has become extremely popular. The National Parks and State Parks in Utah have seen record visitation each year for many years in a row. The Utah State Parks has been rapidly investing in expanding their parks with the cooperation of the Utah Legislature.
Utah has always been very popular for outdoor recreation, and we don’t expect to see that go away anytime soon.
