Today we’d like to introduce you to Brayden Floyd.
Hi Brayden, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started this business in April of 2017. Before it started I had seen a video of the actor Jason Mamoa throwing axes in a venue in Canada and at the time there was only one ax-throwing location in the US. After seeing the video and how much fun it looked to be, I went down a rabbit hole to learn what I could about the sport or activity of ax throwing.
I then found my partners and got to work on opening the first ax-throwing venue in the state of Utah and the first on the west coast. We opened our first location in Ogden UT and it went so well that we opened our next location in Salt Lake City. We were the first and only ax throwing venue to get a beer license. We also added a restaurant to our Ogden Location.
We survived the pandemic and things are going pretty well. We are actually in the process now of opening our 3rd location out of state in Gilbert Arizona to bring this experience to the state of Arizona.
I love what I do and building this business has been a lot of fun!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With us being the first ax-throwing venue in the state, it was tough to convince folks that it was safe. We had to convince an insurance company to give us insurance, then convince the city and state to recognize us as a sport and activity for everyone.
Once we were able to do that, things got easier.

Social Axe Throwing is an ax-throwing establishment, we opened in April 2017 as one of the first ax-throwing venues to open in the United States. We specialize in ax throwing, of course, but our true specialty is the social aspect of our business. We strive to ensure all of our guests have a great time at our place.
We have a 2-hour package that is great for groups like corporate events or birthday parties, wedding events, and much more. When people book this package they never expect to have as much fun as they do. We host it, with one of our trained coaches that go through safety, training, team splitting, 3-4 team games, and then we host a single-player tournament at the end to truly test everyone’s skills and find the best thrower.
My proudest moments for our brand are winning the “Best of SLC” awards and also the Indie Ogden Best Date Night Award.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned is to trust my team! When I first opened up Social Axe, I had the mentality of doing it all myself. I would always be rushing around like a chicken with his head cut off to get things done. It got to be really exhausting and hard to deal with.
But when I gave control, responsibility, and trust to my team. My business really flourished and started to scale! It was a really proud moment to see my staff enjoy their jobs and my store managers push to make the store run better and put their ideas and plans in motion with the business!
