Daily Inspiration: Meet Celeste Campbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Campbell.

Hi Celeste, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew I wanted to be an artist, but I let the world convince me to go down a safer path. After spending more time than I care to admit in college, I graduated with a degree in graphic design. (It’s still creative, right?). I realized two months into my first job as a social media manager that I didn’t enjoy looking at the computer all day.

I was inspired to write a children’s book in my free time. It was something I had always wanted to do. I never expected much would come of it, but people responded so positively to my book that I realized that I could be successful in putting my efforts toward anything I wanted.

Two years later, I have illustrated four children’s books and continue to expand my audience as an artist and illustrator.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I hardly feel alone in my imposter syndrome. Maybe it’s a trait all artists share. Maybe it’s a curse of social media. Every time I get somewhat happy with my progress, I will decide to take another class to improve my skills. While I am proud of where I am at as an artist, I have had to learn to just create before I am “good enough” for the project.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most excited to share my most recent book with the world. I just finished writing a children’s book about period positivity. One day while I was on my period, I realized that I didn’t know how to take care of myself.

I bought a book that totally changed the way I see my body. I wanted to share that message with teenage girls. I have always loved drawing dragons, so I painted a series of dragons to illustrate each stage of the menstrual cycle. I am so happy with how the book turned out and am planning a launch party for it this spring. The book is called “Dragon Girls – Love Your Cycle… Period.”

I am working on programs, videos, and classes to go along with the book, so stay tuned for more info!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The lockdown actually helped me get more work. I was considering getting a part-time job right before it happened. When things shut down, all of m graphic design clients came to me needing help with social media. Working from home gave me more time to work on my art. It has definitely blessed my life. While I also often felt lonely or discouraged, I do believe that I was meant to learn from all that happened.
