Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Lunt.
Hi Jake, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Like many business leaders, I graduated from college. I got a business degree from the University of Utah and an MBA with a focus on marketing from BYU. When I started working at Helpside, I gained a deep admiration for entrepreneurs and the work they do.
So many small business owners I’ve worked with exhibit resilience, astounding work ethic, and passion in their work. Watching other small business leaders persevere through challenges inspired me to develop my own skills as an entrepreneur and find ways to make success for small businesses easier.
My current role as COO at Helpside allows me to work with several departments to find the best solutions for our clients. It’s been an amazing experience developing my leadership skills while doing what I love: Helping people.
I love the people I work with at Helpside, and I love the opportunities I get to learn from the small business leaders and entrepreneurs that make our community better.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our road at Helpside has rarely been smooth. We deal with the same challenges that most small businesses deal with: Complying with changing laws, keeping up with a competitive market, retaining employees, and staying focused despite distractions.
Our team of professionals at Helpside is experts at navigating changes and challenges allowing us to deliver outstanding solutions to our clients even in difficult situations.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Helpside?
Helpside is focused on small business success. That’s how we’ve run our business for the past 30 years, and that’s how we intend to run our business in the future. If you’re anything like me, you hate calling providers over and over, only to get stuck in a phone tree. It’s extremely difficult to get things done when you can’t even get a hold of your providers.
At Helpside, we make sure this doesn’t happen.
When our clients partner with us, they are immediately assigned a payroll specialist to help them with their specific needs. Our payroll representatives have an average of 10 years of experience, allowing them to assist clients with all their personal payroll needs. Beyond that, our clients can contact Helpside experts about issues related to compliance, benefits, and HR at no additional charge, and immediately receive the help they need. Eighty percent of our callers get the help they need from the first person they talk to.
We know that small businesses struggle to afford competitive benefits. Helpside’s benefits offerings give small business owners the opportunity to give their employees a variety of benefits at very competitive rates. These include six different health plans to fit a range of needs. We also offer supplemental benefits such as dental, vision, life insurance and disability, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, and others. These benefits make it easier for our clients to keep their employees healthy and happy.
Our worker’s compensation program is another way we give value to our clients. Helpside’s worker’s comp program is offered with competitive pricing that is easily collected with each payroll. Premiums are calculated based on actual wage amounts, so there is no guessing, no year-end adjustments, and no large annual down payments. With 30 years of combined experience, our risk management team manages the worker’s compensation program, processes client claims, and promotes employee safety.
Whether you are reporting payroll, checking on employee benefits, asking a human resources question, reporting an injury, or requesting a work comp certificate of insurance, you can just make one call to Helpside and will always get the help you need.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The best advice I can give for networking is to set aside time for other people. Find ways to connect to people to provide value for them. Focus on how you can help others. Staying service-oriented is the key to building a meaningful network.
