Hi Mitch and Manny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My brother Manny and I are the owners and founders of Steel Coated Floors. We apply concrete coatings on all sorts of concrete floors to protect and beautify the concrete. We started as children working for our father who was a painter following in the footsteps of our grandfather. Our grandfather was an immigrant who fled post-WWII Belgium for a better life for his family.
Relocating to Utah was a challenge for our grandparents and their four children. Our grandfather worked many jobs to make ends meet then found his talent in painting. His talent grew over the years then was passed on to grow through the next two generations. As kids, Manny and I worked with our dad constantly to the point that before the age of 16 we were proficient professionals completing jobs on our own.
Over the years of doing all sorts of commercial and residential painting and concrete coatings, the focus shifted 100% to concrete coatings. In 2019, we began franchising nationally and today are operating in 12 states with 5-7 more set to open in 2022. We love the partners we work with as we share our experience to help them build their family business. The Steel Coated Family is growing stronger by the day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The growth road is never smooth or easy. Natural growth challenges require commitment and dedication to push through and learn from then of course economic and market challenges that are uncontrollable and difficult to forecast present all-new obstacles to overcome.
Experience over time offers perspective and knowledge on how to navigate the constantly changing scenarios business owners see. We’re proud to learn from both our successes and failures in order to share our knowledge with our partners so they can build from our successes and hard lessons.
Helping others avoid pitfalls is important to long-term sustainability.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Taking bland, stained concrete from an unprotected state to a completely protected, beautiful surface that is easy to maintain cleanliness is so fun every day. Seeing the immediate improvement in the environment we work in is very satisfying.
Concrete will deteriorate over time if it is not protected so giving our clients a surface that will repel all chemicals and liquids preventing stains and odors makes us very happy.
