Daily Inspiration: Meet David Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Jimenez.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a Bartender at a Brewery, I became enthralled in the world of Craft Beer. I was the main line of defense when it came to explaining to customers what these artists (Brewers) we creating behind the curtain.

It wasn’t just Bud Light or Blue Moon, it was something way more delicate, made with love and passion that had me hooked IMMEDIATELY! With this new knowledge of Craft Beer, I wanted to seek out as much knowledge as possible. The best way I could think of was to create a podcast so people can tune in to learn more about certain styles, ways to consume, etc.

Soon I would reach out and meet Brewmasters in the brewing world to hear their story through their passion. That ignited a fire within me! All these beautiful individuals within the Brewing, Distilling and other various fermentation fields had wonderful talent behind the scenes. They all are artists and all have stories to tell. I have now dedicated my platform to help be another mouthpiece for them and showcase their awesomeness!

Still a growing process, but I love talking to these incredible humans. All of them have now become new friends that, together, make our community a better place.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, trying to figure out where/how to start was difficult. Convincing myself that this could work, was just a pipe dream. The first dozen or so Episodes sounded awful, but the passion was there.

That’s what was never lost… the passion. I truly care about what I am talking about and I hope it can help at least one person. Once a friend (who is a Producer) reached out to me, he offered to help the podcast sound better. That was a game-changer and an enormous confidence booster!

After that, it was just focusing on guests and content!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently a Brewer at Utah County’s only Craft Brewery, Strap Tank Brewery. I have to incredible opportunity to make, maintain, create and consistently tweak craft beer. Brewing beer allows me to showcase creativity in liquid form. For example, I think of what kinds of beers and flavors my wife enjoys, then somehow develop that in a beer that she would sit down and enjoy. The possibilities are endless and everyone has a different take on the beer.

When someone is holding a beer, I have made at the end of the bar (not knowing who this individual or them not knowing who I am), and seeing their reaction after the first taste can be magical. Nothing warms my soul more when someone tries my product for the first time, turns to their friends, and says “this is awesome, you have to try it,” that is something I will never get sick of.

What sets me apart from others is my big heart, friendly smile, and long-curly hair. I treat everyone in the same manner. It does not matter if you’re the Pope or the Window Washer. Everyone has a story, everyone has a life, everyone ebbs, and flows, I just want to ensure that around me, you can feel loved, appreciated, and welcomed.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Perseverance, patience, and humility.

Though I am forever learning and growing, the COVID-19 hiccup was just that, a hiccup. Sure life and the world seemed on fire, however, looking past the fear and media, I had my wife and we still had goals to strive for. We did not give up working hard. So much so, that we landed our first home which was one of the proudest moments/memories we share.

During those times, being grounded and focusing on self-worth, self-discipline, and self-care became more predominant in my life. Trying to do everything for everyone is rewarding, but requires you to sell a little of your soul to make it happen. Self-mastery… now that’s the newest goal and chapter in my life.

What an amazing resource Tastemasters has provided! Going out and interviewing people with in the craft beer scene is fun to listen to. It’s nice to see someone passionate in our community who’s willing to put others before themselves.
