Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Peterson.
Hi Danielle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been involved with dogs for well over 15 years. I started learning about dogs while working on the family farm in Pine Valley at my grandpa’s ranch. I also learned about training and working bird dogs with my family at Rooster Valley Pheasants. As a teenager and young adult, I liked to help with family and friends’ dogs learning new tricks and behavior modifications when they needed help. Then in 2018-19, I worked at K9 Lifeline, in Draper Utah. That facility is well known for their dog training and behavior management. I was able to work there for just under a year before moving back to Richfield, Utah. The techniques and business practices I learned there have greatly influenced my business. I returned to Richfield in 2020 and struggled to find my niche.
I found real happiness in working with pet parents in the area. I listened to what the parents of these dogs needed and developed plans to assist the pet owners who were willing to commit to some hard work to improve the quality of life with a dog. El’s Pampered Paws began as “Be-Pawsitive” Dog training to fill a community need for pet owners like walking, brushing, with some training. It began as a very small dog walking and training business and focused on the comfort and convenience to meet the needs of both pets and their parents. As I built my clientele, I developed strategies for teaching dogs and their owners how to communicate in a healthy and productive manner. I appreciate all my clients and the feedback they have provided that allowed my business to grow at such a rapid rate. They wanted and needed a facility not only to train but offer safe dog daycare and an option to board when needed.
Our current facility is now 2500 square feet with 30 kennels available. We offer training, day care services and luxury boarding. We are still experiencing growth as our reputation for quality of care keeps spreading by word of mouth. Clients have been great providing referrals to other dog owners. Richfield owners have helped to shape the services we offer and as that continues, we just added a Dog Taxi to the services as needs arrose for help making it easier for people to get their dogs to the facility, vet appointments and even grooming. I hope to expand to 50 kennels available and even more services offered in the next year or two.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been as smooth of a road, as I’d have liked it to be. The business has faced challenges to bring quality pet services to our area. It has been a challenge to price services at a level that would allow us to be profitable and grow. Our area has not had services like we offer, and it took some time to find our ideal customers. We have struggled to find a suitable space for the business in an appropriate zoning area. We have struggled to find, train, and keep staff in this difficult economy. Our customers have made the struggles worth it and continue to support the business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The staff at El’s Pampered Paws, are pet care professionals who love dogs and enjoy caring for them. We are providing a safe and healthy environment for our pet guests physically and mentally in the Sevier County area. We offer training, structured doggy daycare, & luxury boarding.
Our training offers help for everything from barking, pulling on a leash, fear/aggression, and basic and advanced skills. We consider the dogs in our care as part of our very own family and fully understand the concerns and stress when things don’t go as planned.
We want to provide the best possible care for your pet in a safe, clean, and loving environment that puts parents at ease when boarding their pets. Dogs enjoy our large play areas and luxury accommodations, fun daily activities, and just pampering. At the end of each day, we head into the living room where we cuddle the dogs and watch TV at night to settle everyone down after a full day of fun! It’s called our “home sweet home away from home.”
What matters most to you? Why?
We strive to be the best stress-free option for times when parents and dogs must be separated. We serve first-time dog owners and the long-time pet parents. By providing a safe and healthy environment for our dog guests in the Sevier County area it makes me happy to know this is a place where I would leave my dogs when I to have to travel. I wouldn’t just leave my dogs just anywhere as they are my service dog and service dog in training. I really do pamper them and that is why I made such a place so everyone could feel that peace when leaving their dogs in our care.
