Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Albrecht.
Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I feel like my story is still very much unfolding. Professionally, I lead a software product management team. This is definitely not what I thought I would be doing with my life, but I am having so much fun with it.
I studied accounting in college and then went on to earn an MBA, thinking I would have a career as a CPA. Through some unexpected opportunities at work, I found myself working directly with software engineers and automating processes for the company I worked for. I used that experience to pivot my career and land where I am today.
Last year, I bought a new Toyota Tacoma and, on a whim, decided to start posting pictures of my truck on Instagram. My wife used to be a professional photographer and she taught me the basics of photography. For years, I’ve dabbled in photography and had a lot of fun with it. I found that taking pictures of my truck with gorgeous backdrops of Southern Utah is something that people like and I started gaining thousands of followers.
Shortly after creating my Instagram account, I got hit up by a few different companies that sell aftermarket 4×4 parts and accessories. They invited me to be a brand ambassador for them to help promote their products. One company, in particular, has become a great partner and I now have a pretty steady stream of work doing marketing shoots for the products that they use on their website and for their marketing.
Personally, I’ve always been very excited by the potential of working for myself and building a business. Getting this initial exposure to the offroading market has given me the boost I needed to start my own brand and release some products to market myself.
I’m currently in the very early stages, but I’m excited to announce the launch of DropNutz, which is an integrated drop-in T nut system for mounting tools and gear into any truck bed that has T nut bed rails.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everything so far has been very smooth organic growth, but my personal investment has been very low and so has my risk.
With the launch of my own company impending, I’m sure there are struggles that will inevitably crop up. This will be a very interesting question to ask me a year from now!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I specialize in product and marketing photography for off-road accessory brands. I’m known for providing quality photographs with backgrounds of striking scenery of Southern Utah.
I’m most proud of the short amount of time it took me to get some legitimate clients and contracts signed. I started taking pictures at the end of October 2021 and had my first signed deal by December of that year.
I think what sets me apart is the beautiful scenery I am able to capture in my photographs. The deserts of Southern Utah provide a backdrop that is very unique and companies that are based in the south and midwestern parts of the country simply don’t have access to the scenery that I can capture for them.
Any big plans?
The biggest plan is the launch of my own company. It sure is fun promoting other companies’ products, but manufacturing and getting my own products to market is the ultimate goal.
