Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Bitton.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
During the 2020 pandemic shutdown, I spent countless hours fighting my kids over the home school. My first grader was especially difficult so I sat next to him for hours each day completing his online work. Once school was over, I realized I was used to sitting at a computer, and the thought “it’s time” kept coming to mind.
It was finally time to start real estate school. This was something I had considered for about ten years, but having young children and a husband that worked a lot I couldn’t even make it work. 2020 was time. I buckled down and did online real estate school over the summer and received my license in the fall of 2020.
I started at a great brokerage that provides a lot of education and information on how to be a great real estate agent. I feel very blessed to be where I am and be able to have the support my broker, Eric Lee, provides. He has done a great job at creating a family-like environment in his office.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Real estate is a constant roller coaster – especially in this crazy market – the highs are very high and the lows are very low. I struggle with self-promotion and have had to do many things that push me out of my comfort zone.
The push has been worth it though and I feel like I am building a great, long-term, sustainable client base.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My secret weapon in real estate has turned out to be my husband. I had no idea when I got my license how much I would need his help and advice. My husband is a licensed master electrician and general contractor.
He attends all of the post-inspection walk-throughs on houses and is able to give repair bids and information almost immediately. It has been really fun to watch our businesses grow separately and together with the skills each of us has. Last fall my husband was able to quit his full-time job and pursue his own electrical/contracting business. This has been such a huge blessing for our family.
We are able to spend more time together, but also provide great service for our clients. Working together has been one of the best things we have done for our family, businesses, and marriage. In both the real estate and contracting businesses we are able to help each other’s clients.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Consistency is key to a successful business. I have learned to do small things in my business that are consistent. On a suggestion from my mentor I did one live Facebook video where I taught my friends how to make my favorite pie and then threw in a few real estate tips – it was fun, not stressful and something I could do consistently.
I recently hit the one-year anniversary of what has become the weekly live Facebook show “Cooking and Real Estate”. I keep getting encouragement and business from this little live Facebook show that I continue doing it. It shows my clients and friends a lot about me, my family, how I run my business, real estate tips, and good food. I also have a lot of fun doing it.
I am bold about being imperfect, showing up with no makeup on occasionally, and also encouraging people to get in the kitchen and cook, all while throwing in real estate tips. Cooking and Real Estate was not something I ever planned on, but it’s been the best consistent accident I could have ever done for my business.
