Daily Inspiration: Meet Hannah Gabel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Gabel.

Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma Stage 3B. My journey began in October of 2018 while attending my freshman year of college in Florida. I had no symptoms except for two lumps above my collarbone. Having to find my way through this illness while on my own keeping up with school work, meeting new friends, and creating a life of my own was difficult but I refused to give up because I felt that something was wrong even when others told me nothing was.

After having a biopsy of a lump on my neck, around 20 scans, lots of blood work, and seeing about 4 doctors I was told the diagnosis. Within a week I was home and had begun chemo at Huntsman cancer institute. I’m grateful to the wonderful staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute, who delivered me all the material that I needed to help me feel knowledgeable!

I have created YouTube videos and connected with originations such as Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help bring awareness to the darkness that this can bring to a young adult’s life, I want everyone to know they aren’t alone in this fight! After entering remission I was able to get my master’s esthetician license and am now a junior in college studying Public Relations and Advertising.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was definitely not smooth, rather it is constant nausea, bone, and joint pain, or hair loss I faced many side effects of treatment. I ended up spending a few days in the hospital after becoming neutropenic. I also faced some challenges after treatment with anxiety and depression.

No one prepares you for the negative side of ending treatment. Many people get excited and want to celebrate you but as a patient, I felt lost and unsure of how to move on.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m proud of how I handle difficult situations, I believe that obstacles, difficulties, and challenges make you stronger. I became a stronger, more compassionate, and more grateful individual through this experience. Adversity can shape you, I’m proud of how I handled all of the difficulties that came my way and am a stronger person because of them.

My ability to persevere and find positivity in any situation no matter the circumstances is something that helps me in life, school, and work. I specialize in skincare, acting, modeling, PR, marketing, and graphic design.
