Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernanda De Sousa.
Hi Fernanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the modeling industry when I was 12 years old. At first, I thought that all this acting and modeling thing was just a hobby. But with time I realized I had a talent and with a little help I found my way. Sometimes I still can not believe it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anyone that has successfully done something has found a smooth road. The truth is… If you want to become a model in real life you have to have strong mental health to accept tons of NOs. Some of the struggles I found along the way were the casting directors.
They can be cruel, to the point that they can make you doubt yourself and your potential. I never cried and I have never taken a no personal. But of course, I have had doubts about my potential a couple of times.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a model. I have been in the modeling industry for over ten years now. I have worked for multiple brands and local stores in the USA and Latin America. Currently, I am mostly doing comercial and fashion modeling but I can be known as a blogger on social media.
At this point, I am proud of everything I have done. I can not pick only one thing. I am a workaholic and outdoorsy person. Everything I have done is what has transformed me into the person I am today.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe our mentors find us, we don’t find them. There are tons of people out there talking and doing the same thing that you want to do, or that you believe in, but for some reason, you will only connect with a few and that’s when you have to be respectful, patient, and gracious and understanding. That’s what has worked for me.
