Meet Mariah Koehle of Mariah K Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Koehle.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Northern California in a town called Santa Rosa. Both of my parents were elementary educators and I knew that was the path I wanted to take someday too.

I grew up playing team sports my entire life and had a scholarship opportunity to play NCAA Division 1 collegiate soccer for the University of the Pacific, Go Tigers! I received my teaching credential and Master’s degree in Education from there.

After graduating from college, I accepted my first teaching position in my hometown and taught for one school year. That summer I married my high school sweetheart, Eric and we moved to Utah so that he could finish his Master’s Degree in Accounting at Brigham Young University.

We loved the beauty of Utah and enjoyed the gorgeous mountains and the many outdoor activities. After he graduated from BYU, we took a job in San Diego where he worked as a tax accountant and I accepted an elementary teaching position.

Shortly after moving to San Diego, we purchased our first home in Oceanside, California. I instantly fell in love with the entire process, from searching for the perfect home to negotiating the deal. I discovered through this home buying process that I definitely wanted to pursue this avenue so I enrolled in real estate school, took the exam, and received my California real estate license that next year.

During this time I continued to teach elementary school for over a decade while still maintaining my real estate license. We had four children during this time, including our surprise set of boy/girl twins to complete our family.

As a family, we would take annual trips to Utah to enjoy the gorgeous fall colors and the eventful summers. After many years of this, my husband and I decided to purchase an investment property outside of Salt Lake City. We ran a successful short-term rental and really enjoyed this process.

Once Covid hit, the remainder of our short-term bookings for the year were canceled. With things shutting down in San Diego, we decided to move our family to Utah for a change of pace. To our delight, Utah felt like home instantly and has been the perfect fit for our family ever since.

Shortly after we moved to Utah, I got my real estate license in Utah. At the time, I wasn’t sure how I was going to rebuild my business in a new area. However, I quickly decided to see what would happen if I began to leverage social media. I started an Instagram account showcasing beautiful homes I had either sold, toured, or would like to someday tour.

Not long after I began my account, I got my first listing in Utah and the rest is history. I love helping families buy and sell their dream homes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any compelling entrepreneurial story, there were lots of peaks and valleys to get to the point that I am at right now.

The biggest challenge for me was making the leap from full-time educator to an entrepreneur. I loved the predictability as an educator and feared the unknown of running my own real estate business.

However, once I made the leap I never looked back. It took time and a lot of patience before my business got going. Through this incredible journey, I have met several fabulous mentors who have shown me how to run and scale a successful business.

This has been an exciting process and truly the greatest learning experience. During this time, I learned many important lessons. One of the most important lessons I learned is to stop thinking small. I knew I had a desire to learn, a willingness to grow, and a commitment to stay the course.

Now all I needed was time to run its course. Once I pushed aside my fears and went for it, I started to see incredible results. I am currently selling luxury properties in both Utah and California and have never had more fun in my life.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
This dream began back in 2005 when my husband and I purchased our first home in Oceanside, California.

I instantly fell in love with the entire process, from searching for the right home, negotiating the deal, and ultimately purchasing our first home. I discovered through this home buying process that I wanted to help guide other families through it as well. Less than a year later, I got my real estate license in California.

During the pandemic when we moved our family to Utah, I got licensed in Utah as well. I absolutely love helping families buy and sell their dream homes in both Utah and California. I specialize primarily in relocation and luxury residential real estate.

I am part of a national brokerage and am partnered with incredible real estate agents nationwide. It has been an incredible experience to link arms with amazing agents all across the country. I also enjoy coaching other real estate agents on how to scale their business through the power of social media.

You know the saying, “Do what you love, you’ll never work another day in your life.” This is exactly how I feel about the real estate business that I am running.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The real estate market right now is so exciting and unbelievable.

I have never seen a market quite like it before. It is still a great market to buy and sell. Although interest rates have increased, they are still historically low compared to what we have been in the past.

I know that homeownership is an incredible gateway to long-term and short-term financial success and it would be my privilege to help guide you through it.
