Community Highlights: Meet Autumn Miller of AutumnDawnPhoto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Miller.

Autumn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My interest in photography first sparked at a young age. I admired my grandfather’s talent at capturing the closest details in photos that he took of flowers in his garden. I was fascinated and asked him to teach me. From that day on, I fell in love in photography. I was 16 when I got my first DSLR camera and I took it with me everywhere. Once I got to college, I began taking portrait photos, and that is where I found my passion for portrait photography.

If I were to tell my young self where I would be today, I wouldn’t believe it!

I have been able to be a part of so many special moments and met such great people through photography. I started taking pictures of flowers and now I have photographed: engagements, families, couples, seniors, children, proposals, bridals, graduations, weddings, and so many individuals.

I have moved to multiple states, but have finally planted roots in Salt Lake City. I am thrilled to see where AutumnDawnPhoto takes me in Utah, and I cannot wait for the many new adventures to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, photography has had a lot of its ups and downs. I’d say the hardest part has been consistency. Practice makes perfect, and in order to get better and to build a clientele, I had to practice A LOT. One of my most favorite and successful ways of not only building up my photography experience, but also my editing skills has been through styled shoots. When I needed to build exposure or just practice new poses or with lighting, I would find models to take pictures with.

Sometimes growth is small and it may seem like you are not progressing. Comparing myself to other photographers happened from time to time, but I had to change my mindset. Instead of saying, “I wish I was as good as that photographer”, I would change my perspective to how I could look at other work as inspiration! I have experienced this a lot more than I would have wanted, but now looking back at where I started to where I am now, helps me to see how far I have come!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
AutumnDawnPhoto is very near and dear to my heart. Not only do I enjoy getting to know new people and helping them capture their special moments, but I also have found such a great passion and hobby. I like to capture very natural and candid shots. I love to edit my photos with a warm glow, when you look at the pictures they will appear very soft and cozy. My goal is to capture the pure joy of the moment that we are in when taking your photos. If that is the happiness of a couple celebrating their engagement, the smiles of families that love one another, or the excitement that a graduate has on their face because of such a great accomplishment.

I specialize in portraits. I specifically take photos of individuals (kids, seniors, college graduates, headshots, etc.), couples (engagements, proposals, bridals), and small families. The photos that I take are warm and genuine. I will also be your hype-woman throughout your entire experience. I will make sure that we share laughs, and capture your real smile, I will tell you how amazing you look and make sure that we use both natural and comfortable poses that you like.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My grandfather played a huge role in teaching me how to take pictures on a camera and how to enjoy being in the moment. I have close friends and family who have also cheered me on and told me that I could do it when I felt like giving up. I also took a Digital Imaging course while attending college and learned a few tricks on Lightroom. Social Media has also been a great help when I am looking for inspo or photography tips.
