Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Egbert.
Hi Elise, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started designing in high school as a hobby and fell in love with the creative outlet. In college, I studied Desktop Publishing– a branch of design focused a bit more on print, publications, and design for business needs. I ultimately ended up graduating with a degree in Public Relations, which was an area I fell in love with because of the new (at the time haha) focus on marketing and PR via social media.
I found a job I loved at a local marketing firm where I had the opportunity to use my PR, marketing, social media, and design skills. I spent years there as the Creative Director and thrived in an environment with a lot of diversity in my projects. When my daughter was born in 2018, I switched to working from home and ultimately decided it was time to truly build my own business and take my freelance side-gig full-time.
Over the past 4 years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of clients and refined my design processes and offerings. Today, Elise Creates is focused on helping fellow entrepreneurs and business owners accomplish their business goals with high quality designs to support their big ideas. I especially love working with fellow mothers who have invested in themselves, their hobbies, and a career outside the full-time job of parenting. I find that I relate a lot to their goals and dreams for their businesses.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been plenty of struggles along the road to building my business to where it is today. I’ve learned a lot about myself and how I work best– especially as a mom. I’ve learned how to work in small spurts during short naps, but I’ve also learned that I thrive with longer periods of time to focus on my projects. So, I’ve learned how to invest in myself and my business by hiring childcare!
I’ve learned how to communicate well with clients and how to present my ideas in an effective way. I’ve struggled with clients who are not a good fit and have learned how to heal from client “break ups”.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Because of my background in business design and marketing, I have a lot of expertise in the strategy BEHIND the designs. I love taking a client’s idea and helping them take it to the next level with intentional design and strategy to support it. I also have a passion for hand lettering and illustration, which helps add personal touches to designs when it fits the goals of the design.
I also still have a deep love for social media, blogging, and the connections found there. Because of my background in blogging and expertise in social media marketing, I’m often a great fit for influencers, bloggers, and digital publishers because I understand the nuances of their business and I know their audiences well.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My very first official retainer client, Camille from FridayWereinLove.com, has been one of the greatest supports in developing my business. We started out as friends and attended blog conferences together! And now we discuss business strategy and ideas frequently. She helped me to recognize how my skills are a great fit for digital publishers and bloggers like herself. And designing for her has expanded my skills and helped me recognize talents I wanted to develop further. Working with her has truly made me a better designer!
