Today we’d like to introduce you to Maty Harrington.
Hi Maty, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Upstate NY. I was born with severe defects and had 3 open-heart surgeries by the age of 5. I struggled with a lot of health issues growing up. My parents were really healthy and believed in living a very healthy lifestyle, so living under their roof I followed their suit and got past a lot of my main struggles. When I went off to college, I started eating really unhealthy and drinking a lot and I started experiencing really bad anxiety and panic attacks. My mental health was a mess. Once I graduated my life and my anxiety were just not working for me. So I decided to start all over and I moved home. While I was home, I started working at a gym and fell in love with fitness and how healthy all my coworkers were. I got really into nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle and I felt like my life was completely changing for the better and I realized that I wanted to share everything I was learning. So I went back to school and got my nutrition certification and started my own practice. I was using social media at the time to just share some tips and gain some nutrition clients. The more I posted, the more I fell in love with it and knew this was what I was meant to do, so I took a pause with my practice and have been a full-time health and wellness content creator ever since. My goal is to inspire others to live a healthy attainable lifestyle.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning of my story and health journey was very challenging. I was very sick as a child and I felt very lost for years. When my anxiety was at its worst, I hit rock bottom.
Once I started working for myself, the biggest challenge was having confidence in myself. In the beginning, I would post on Instagram/Tiktok and wouldn’t even show my face because I was so nervous and scared of what would other people think. I had to do a lot of work on myself to get past that and now I feel very confident sharing my passion with others!
My biggest struggle was getting past my own insecurities.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the creator of @nutritiouslyeasy on Instagram and TikTok. I am a Nutritionist and I try to inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle through attainable tips, tricks, and recipes. I post a lot of healthy, simple recipes that anyone can make! I try to educate my followers on things like: vitamin & mineral deficiencies, ingredients in food and food marketing, healthy swaps they can make, and more.
I am most proud of the community I have built. A lot of people reach out to me thanking me for helping them make healthy changes that are actually doable.
I think what sets me apart is that a lot of health and wellness content creators are almost unattainable for most people’s daily lives, whereas I really try to take an attainable approach and make really simple recipes, talk about sweet cravings, share healthier mocktails and cocktails recipes and just talk about struggles that people might go through when they are starting to change their diets and becoming a little healthier.
