Rising Stars: Meet Luseane Funaki

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luseane Funaki.

Luseane, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As cliche as it sounds, I’ve always loved taking pictures and documenting anything I was doing! In high school, I took a photography class and loved it! I loved how you could change angles on one subject and the photos would look totally different. I loved the “blurry backgrounds”, All of it. Then my freshman year of college I took another photography class and I was horrible! I barely passed the class and thought maybe it wasn’t for me. For a couple of years, I would just photograph friends and family for free. Eventually, I decided to start charging around $50, followed a lot of photographers on social media, that I looked up to. Watched youtube and googled everything I wanted to know! A lot of my work has been trial and error! I just recently started investing in myself and learning how to scale my business and learn how to step it up and take better photos, but also provide an awesome client experience!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Heck no! I wish haha! I’ve had to deal with mistakes I’ve made as a beginner photographer, mistakes that have made me want to quit! Difficult clients, hard drives corrupting, etc. Figuring out a lot of things by myself!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Family, Couple, and Wedding photography! I would say I am more known for my family photography! I get a lot of referrals from families I’ve previously shot, to their family members! I’m most proud of how hard I’ve worked to build my clientele in such a competitive market and area! I’m proud that I’ve been recommended by others to capture so many special moments for people! What sets me apart is that I really try to capture the phase of life you’re in. The non-posed, fun sessions are my favorite. Especially with family photography some parents, including myself, want their kids to behave, stand still, and smile. But I loved to catch the funny faces, them running around, them having fun. That’s who they are!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
For photography I love to learn from other photographers that inspire me, like Morgan with Inframes Photography, I love listening to Oh Shoot by Cassidy Lynn. I also have a life coach that helps me with anything I need help with, business or personal! I also love the book profit first for the financial side of the business!
