Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Hansen.
Haley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I had taken photography classes in high school but never pursued a photography career. After I had my baby girl, I felt like I didn’t have anything to do that was for myself anymore. I decided to start doing photography to help get me out of the house, so I borrowed my mom’s camera and went out and started taking pictures. After a few weeks, I decided to start a photography page on social media. Since then, I have started my business, got my own gear, and have learned so much. Photography has given me the chance to meet some amazing people. I absolutely love photography and being able to a creative outlet.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth. I had many moments where I just felt like giving up. It’s easy to feel like a failure when you start something and don’t see immediate success. I had many times where I got done with a session and just didn’t feel like I did as well as I should have and it was very discouraging. It still happens sometimes, but I’ve learned that just because one session doesn’t go as well as you hoped doesn’t mean you aren’t good, so you have to keep going and keep trying.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer. I specialize in couple and portrait sessions. I think I am most proud that I’ve made it this far and I’ve gotten to the point where I really love the pictures I take and the editing process. I used to be afraid to be creative and be different from other photographers, but now I try new things in sessions even if I don’t know if they will turn out. I am not afraid to try different poses or do things that I’ve never done before.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is reaching a point where you feel happy with your work and what you’re doing. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to photography, but I feel successful because I am able to create images that I love and that others enjoy as well.
