Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Outsen. She shares their story with us below:
The Spirit Goat by Grae Sage & Tate unexpectedly flourished into a business, back in 2002, after the founder had experimented in her home kitchen to create just the right goat’s milk and shea butter soap that would cleanse, moisturize and nourish her babies’ sensitive skin without irritation and chemicals.
From a home kitchen to a unique and adorable boutique-style shop with a visible working production kitchen, the Spirit Goat continues to offer natural, artisanal, luxury soap, lotion and bath products. The owner, Deanna Outsen, and her daughter, Sydney, worked closely with the founder, prior to taking on the business in 2018, with her husband Matt. Still using the same time-tested recipes that have been researched, formulated, developed, and proven to cleanse and nourish the most sensitive skin.
The Spirit Goat continues to research and expand their product line maintaining the integrity they were built on. They offer a wide variety of products for face, feet, baby, hair care, healing and pain relief, shaving, aromatherapy, Utah themed and unique decor and signs. All products at the Spirit Goat are made in small batches, using high quality ingredients, ensuring the highest quality products that are phthalate, sulfate, paraben-free and are always cruelty-free.
Voted Best Boutique Shop in Best of Northern Utah 2021 & 2022.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the 20-year story (and counting!) has been a smooth road. Sydney started working for The Spirit Goat in 2005 and Deanna started in 2008. They both learned the ins & outs of ingredients, recipes, production, and flourished in the unique style and displaying of the store. Covid-19 posed some interesting obstacles; however, soap was a necessity and needed for keeping everyone clean but moisturized. The small family business flourished through curbside pickup along with the website in those hard times, helping people find moisturizing soap and enriching creams and lotions. As The Spirit Goat continues to grow, the number of employees increases, the customer connection grows deeper, the community outreach grows wider, the Purchase with Purpose helps more organizations, and the Loyalty Program benefits more people.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The Spirit Goat is a small family owned and operated shop, who offers a visual production kitchen with knowledgeable employees, producing body products and soaps that are artistically creative and beautiful. With the added benefit of goat’s milk, shea butter, and skin moisturizing plant-based oils, all the body products are made in small batches, measured from scratch, which gives the Spirit Goat the opportunity to create artisanal, luxurious handmade products for a wide variety of skin types, especially sensitive skin and those with allergies. Goat’s milk is naturally high in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and alpha-hydroxy acids that nourish and rejuvenate the skin. Goat’s milk has a pH close to our skin’s natural pH resulting in a mild, non-irritating, highly moisturizing product for even the most delicate skin.
