Today we’d like to introduce you to Petra Sheeley.
Hi Petra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a middle school teacher in Massachusetts at the same time I was working in a dog daycare facility. I loved both. I got the opportunity to go to a workshop in Vermont with a well-known dog trainer. We hung out one night and she offered me a job. I took the job (in Utah) knowing that if it didn’t work out, I could always go back to teaching. I worked there for 5 years, working my way up from kennel tech to head trainer. I even went back to that workshop in Vermont with her to teach. About 2 years ago I decided to start my own training business. I recently hired a second trainer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been fairly smooth. Most of my business is word of mouth right now.

We offer in-home dog training. We specialize in teaching you a way to live with your dog, keep behaviors you want and get rid of behaviors you don’t want. We also specialize in puppy potty training and teaching your puppy to sleep through the night. Going into your house sets us apart. We work your dog in their environment daily for three weeks. We walk where you walk, teaching your dog excellent leash skills so you can enjoy being with your best friend.
I’m proud of the dogs and owners that we help. It makes me happy when our clients follow through and can enjoy their dogs again.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as being able to do what I love and still pay the bills and have some fun.
