Check Out Hollie Choules’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hollie Choules.

Hi Hollie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Utah in 2012 to go to design school and pretty much immediately found that people would hear I was studying interior design and respond “oh, don’t judge my house!” and hated that people felt embarrassed about their homes but couldn’t afford a designer! It became a passion project to find a way to make a designed home affordable for everyone but when our oldest was born I stepped back to stay at home with her. While home with her I found that I enjoyed putting designs together on my phone for something to do in my spare time and pretty soon I started sharing them on social media. Suddenly, it felt like there was a way to expand my reach and help more people get the home they wanted and deserved!

After a few years of doing that under the radar the idea of e-design was really taking off and my Instagram started getting a lot more attention. Within a few months, I went from just around 100 followers to over 500 with more every day. It’s been super exciting to see people realizing that they can have a beautiful, well-designed home no matter where they live, what their budget is, or even what their style is!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For a long time, it felt like I was just posting to the crickets and some friends from high school. And like every social media person I felt like the game was always changing faster than I could keep up. Along the way, we also bought an old farmhouse and added four more kids and a couple of animals so life kept us busy and I never knew how much effort I needed to be putting into something that had just started as a way to fill time when I felt like I didn’t have free time anymore!

It honestly hasn’t felt like I was making any headway or having any success until this past year. The rewards feel worth it now, but I wasn’t sure we’d ever get there for a really long time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an e-designer which is an interior designer that works primarily online. I help clients from all over the country design their homes for significantly less and in a shorter time frame than a traditional on-site interior designer. I started Seven Sixty Home about 7 years ago as a hobby to fill time while our oldest was a baby just as an Instagram profile where I was posting designs I was putting together on my phone! I’ve worked in tandem with my husband who is a plumber by trade and between the two of us we know a lot about both the construction and design side of home building.

I’ve worked primarily in farmhouse-style homes but I love heritage homes and classic styles. However, I believe that what your home says about who you are and what your story is determines what good design is far more than the space just shouting that it is a particular style!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I can definitely see more design moving online! The pandemic certainly helped that along, people being at home made them itchy to redesign and renovate but they couldn’t bring in a traditional on-site interior designer. There will always be some clients who would rather have someone in person handling all the details for them which I can appreciate but we live in such a fast-paced and online-based world that it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if e-design continued to make huge strides.
