Today we’d like to introduce you to Cora Chappell.
Hi Cora, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up with super light eyebrows that didn’t make me feel confident. One day I decided to get them done and it changed my life. That sounds so silly that eyebrows can change your life but they really did! I felt so much more comfortable in my skin and I wanted to do that for others. So, I took a course, and then I kind of just grew from there. I now offer all sorts of cosmetic tattoos, like brows, lips, and lashline enhancements. I also offer some esthetic services. I’ve kind of found my niche in freckles though. I love doing heart-shaped freckles especially. They’re such a fun and unique way my clients get to express themselves and I love being a part of that. I love the feeling of helping someone feel more beautiful or more like themselves.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is smooth, probably. I’ve been pretty blessed with the people in my corner that have helped me navigate everything. I have two beautiful daughters and this career really allows me to have a front-seat view of their life which is important to me. My wonderful partner has been an immense supporter and we’ve sacrificed a lot of time together to not only be there for our girls but also so I can build my business and be creative. The biggest struggle has been not having enough time in the day for all the things I want to do. It’s all worth it though. I think most creatives and small business people will say the sacrifices are worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer a variety of cosmetic tattoo/permanent makeup services. So different types of semi-permanent tattooed brows, lip blush, lash enhancements, and freckles/beauty marks. I would say my specialty is definitely freckles. I love doing heart-shaped freckles, constellation freckles, colored freckles, whatever. They’re what I’m most proud of and what I have the most fun doing. I think when you have fun it really shows in your work. I think my freckles are what sets me apart from other cosmetic tattooers because they’re unique. That’s not to say that there aren’t other amazing artists out there that will do absolutely beautiful freckles. I’m just proud of my work and am happy to put them on people. I’m really down for anything and I keep my space safe and inclusive. My work is for all bodies, regardless of gender, race, size, whatever. Everyone is welcome, always.
What do you think about luck?
Sometimes I think luck is just another word for privilege. I definitely have privilege. As a mostly white, mostly straight woman I’ve had good cards dealt for a lot of things in my life. My career being one of them. I’m incredibly “lucky” to have been able to afford the time and access to a great course and mentor (shout out Hannah at Bisou Beauty) where I was able to learn and enhance my craft. I’m “lucky” to have a support network of people to cheer me on, let me practice on their faces, watch my girls, etc. I’m “lucky” that I was able to put in hours and hours of practice, and hard work. I’m lucky, sure. And I’m also extremely grateful. Luck, privilege, hard work. It all comes together.
