Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Salazar.
Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in New York. My daughter was born when I was 16 and it was a wake up call that changed the trajectory of my life. Since I had her at such a young age, it made me grow up a lot faster and realize that I have a responsibility to take care of her as well as my mom. I made the difficult decision to focus on my future, career and school to provide a better quality of life for my daughter so I moved to Rhode Island while she moved to Utah with her mom. I stayed in Rhode Island and went to Grad School and finished my Master’s of Science in Information Technology, it was a Leadership major for people in IT and I learned a lot about my passion for being in leadership and helping others be the best versions of themselves. I moved to Utah in 2015 so I can be closer to my daughter and rebuild our life together.
While living in Utah, I still worked my full-time remote job for one of the industry leaders in Cybersecurity as a Manager for their Product Support Team, where I managed the day-to-day responsibilities of their support Organization. I love my company but I also knew I had a lot more to give back to this world.
In December 2020, I started two new businesses at the same time:
1) An Etsy store dealing with e-commerce selling custom designs that I made on shirts and mugs, along with customized chakra affirmations on Printed canvases.
2) and a Pet Waste Removal Business. Poop scoopin’ for dog owners. 🙂
I still manage my Etsy store in the background, but my Pet Waste Removal Business has been growing exponentially. I’m in my second year as a Professional Pooper Scooper and it’s been one of the most exciting opportunities I’ve been able to create for myself. This also led to the creation of my Youtube Channel PoopScoopsForNoobs where I help teach other people how to become a Pooper Scooper and share my insight and experience in owning this kind of business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the biggest struggles on this journey was having my daughter when I was 16. Even though I was only a child, I had a massive burden on my shoulders to move forward in my life and hopefully, one day provide her the kind of life I didn’t have when I was her age. When I moved to Rhode Island, I was single-mindedly focused on finishing school and moving to Utah to be closer to her by the time I moved to Utah and accomplished that goal I really didn’t feel like I had anything else to work towards.
This led to struggles with mental health and feeling like I didn’t have a higher purpose in my life, even though I take care of my daughter and mom. Because I’m not from Utah and I work remotely for my day job, it’s also been very difficult expanding my social circle and meeting new people in the area. Starting my two businesses and my Youtube channel has helped me grow out of my comfort zone, provide value to my customers who really appreciate what I do, and make new friends along the way. I feel like a more complete person with everything I am responsible for.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is one of the few ways an individual can grow in life. Humans are naturally drawn to what is fast and efficient and that leads to staying comfortable and not trying to expand out of that comfort zone. When you take a risk, you allow yourself the vulnerability to fail and do something different. I fundamentally believe that vulnerability is a tool many people refuse to acknowledge because of the societal judgment of being “weak” or “too sensitive”. But sharing in that vulnerable space with the people who want to be there with you will allow you to flourish and discover what you are really capable of.
I took a risk and moved to Rhode Island for the chance of having a great college degree and providing a better future for my family. I took a risk and started several businesses even though I felt like I was not ready. These risks helped me uncover my true potential and gave me the courage to acknowledge that I am good enough to be a Father, a Business Owner and an Entrepreneur.
