Exploring Life & Business with Arlen Jiacoletti of Arlen’s Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlen Jiacoletti.

Hi Arlen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I migrated to Miami from Nicaragua when I was in high school, while in high school I took a drafting class and fell in love with it. I won 1st place at the Miami Dade County Youth Fair and was awarded a scholarship by The Art Institute; However, they later found out I was not eligible due to my immigration status since my green card application was still processing. Anyhow, I had to wait for my papers to come through to go to college.

While waiting for that process I decided to do what I could on my own, so I started staging friends’ homes and I knew then is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I finally got my degree and I now offer my services at a lower price than most designers because I want to impact the lives of people not only by providing a comfortable beautiful home/space, but I also I like to make an impact by providing affordable prices.

Our surroundings definitely have an impact on our lives and I want to make sure that everyone I help can have a positive experience that can last for a long time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not having a green card when I graduated delayed schooling and everything else for me. I lost a scholarship, so I had to pay with student loans which I am still paying for. Being an immigrant and woman is not necessarily an obstacle but it’s definitely more difficult.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I offer interior design services such as: architectural drawings including floor plans, and elevations. 3D drawings and reflective ceiling plans. I also offer space planning, decoration, and staging. I am known for creating beautiful harmonious spaces. What sets me apart from my competition is the time and care I put into my projects. I also have the lowest prices in town. I am proud of every space I work on whether it is a small renovation to a big construction.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I follow Interior Design magazines, Architecture Digest, and lots of social media. I also go to Design conferences.
