Hidden Gems: Meet Brock Carter of TrackAction Mobility Utah and TrackAction Mobility Nevada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brock Carter.

Brock, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a Utah resident my entire life and back in May 2015 I suffered a spinal injury while riding four-wheelers with my family at Little Sahara sand dunes. Little Sahara is somewhere we spent many many weekends with our family and friends enjoying the great outdoors. Anything to do with the outdoors was our life. Two-day weekend trips to week-long family vacations, the outdoors was what we love to do.

Once I suffered my spinal injury, I knew I needed to figure out a way to continue on with our family traditions and way of life. While in physical therapy, I stumbled across a chair called the Action TrackChair. Once I began looking into it, I realized there was no one in my immediate area or even in the state of Utah able to sell a TrackChair to me. So, not only was I trying to figure out how to get myself a chair, but I was also on the pursuit of figuring out how I can provide these chairs to many other people because Utah has so many great outdoor recreational opportunities.

Shortly after my injury, I was lucky enough to have not only gotten myself a new TrackChair but also started a company called TrackAction Mobility Utah with the goal of providing outdoor opportunity to as many people as possible to help create a healthy body and soul after a life-changing injury. Most people feel that life is over after suffering a spinal injury. However, we love showing what these chairs can do and how they can change you and your family‘s lives. Life is not over!

These chairs allow people to conquer outdoor activities that they thought would never be possible again. Since my injury, I have literally taken my Action TrackChair all across the western states of the United States. Sand dunes, beaches, ice fishing to mountain tops – whatever we have chosen to do as a family my chair has gotten me there. We have now been in the business almost 6 years and I’m proud to say we have teamed up with some great partners in the state of Utah and Idaho to help some lucky individuals that cannot otherwise afford them themselves get a chair. We’ve also worked really hard to get these TrackChairs approved at the VA hospital in Salt Lake City, workers comp in ID, WY, & NV, & many veterans support groups across the country.

We really focus on every means and possibilities to help people get their accessibility back and fulfill the dreams of being back in the outdoors once again. We have a community of chairs now where we host different events and gather us all together to tell stories and enjoy the time we have in the outdoors all because of our Action TrackChairs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it most definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. People just don’t understand the lack of mobility someone has in a wheelchair and the ability to get out in the outdoors. They look at these chairs as a recreational piece only, when actually they can completely change someone’s mindset to create a healthier life while enjoying the outdoors. We have been able to get these chairs approved at the VA and multiple state workers’ comp programs for absolutely free to the end-user.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TrackAction Mobility Utah and TrackAction Mobility Nevada?
TrackAction Mobility Utah and Nevada is a family-owned business created to help get disabled folks get out in the outdoors. There’s so much healing that can be done while simply enjoying the great outdoors. We have taken the Action TrackChair from being fairly unknown in UT to now being seen on mainstream media. We have been working with multiple well-known organizations to create a fully accessible TrackChair archery course that travels to several states in the western United States. We want everyone to know these chairs can absolutely change someone’s life for the better after a tragic injury.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very active youth playing football, basketball, and also rodeod all through high school. My dad taught me that nothing is free in this world and you have to work hard at everything you do. This is why I started working at a young age and really enjoy a good day‘s hard work. My day-to-day job is managing fire brigade, hazmat, and high-angle rescue teams. This has taking me all around the country over the last 20 years, and although I really enjoye what I do and very rewarding , the satisfaction of giving someone their mobility back is 100% what drives me any day today.
