Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Fitzgerald.
Hi Lindsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up around all things crafty. My mom made quilts and our Halloween costumes. She taught me how to knit and crochet at a young age. I remember she dabbled in all the fiber arts, and I always loved seeing what she created. I took a couple years of sewing in high school but wasn’t really into it back then.
After I had my first child at 25 years old, I quit my job to stay home with my baby. I decided on a whim to start making baby shoes and selling them on Insta (@Moccsbyrobin) & Etsy. My mom came over that day and helped me create my first pair. I listed them on Etsy and the next day I had my first sale. My shop quickly grew, and I continued to run it for a few good years. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I really started getting into making my own clothes. I started with all the free patterns I could find, then quickly became obsessed and wanted to master everything around garment making. In 2021 I opened up a sewing pattern shop @Staystitchpatternco with my friend Candice (@sewbakemake). I’ve learned so much through the process, like how to digitize sewing patterns through illustrator and how to create sewing instructions. I’ve really dived into the fashion design world and feel like I’ve found what I’m meant to do! This year I have been focusing on learning how to drape and create truly unique patterns. I’m very passionate about creating, and I finally feel like I’ve found my forever creative outlet/career 💗
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It started out as just sharing a hobby that I loved, and it naturally grew to more on the way. I feel like in that way; it has been smooth. Although, I have tried to be consistent along the way 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a pattern & fashion designer and also a content creator that loves to share the process of my passion along the way. I think I have a passion for learning new skills and sharing the process in a unique way. I love designing and equally love sharing the process 🙂
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The pandemic is ultimately what got me into this line of work and taught me that when I have nothing else that I can always count on being creative and getting lost in learning new skills.
