Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah McClure.
Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in the wedding photography business since 2016, but have been taking photos since 2009! My passion for photography started when I was in high school. I spent a lot of my time creating unique portrait shoots with my friends and local models.
In 2016 one of my close friends asked me to take her engagement photos. I was adamant that I would never shoot couples – it was too much stress. She finally broke me down and I said yes. I quickly learned that shooting with couples was way more fun than portrait work!
She then asked me to shoot her wedding, and I was hooked! Since that first wedding, I have discovered my passion for working with couples, adventuring together, and traveling to gorgeous places to capture their love!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a pretty smooth road for me. Owning your own business is a struggle in itself, so it has definitely tested me over the years.
But it has also taught me strength and resilience. In order to grow my business, I have to continue growing and educating myself, which is a great thing!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in couples photography and destination weddings and elopements! I put my heart and soul into capturing couples and their unique and authentic love, not something posed.
I’m there to document their personalities and relationship! When I’m working with a couple we laugh until we cry, we explore gorgeous locations, and they get to snuggle the crap out of their best pal while I capture it! I get to create magic.
I am not just someone that is hired to show up on a wedding day, snap some photos, and never hear from me again. Working with me is more than that! I WANT to be their best friend, to know what makes them tick, and want to help plan the intricate details of their most important day. I thrive on adventurous locations and couples who trust me to give them an incredible experience.
There are hundreds of insanely talented photographers out there, so why me? I am their partner in crime! (Except we are not committing any actual crimes, I swear).
But I am here to serve my couples in any way that I can. I want them to be so stoked about the experience I offer – because that’s right folks, it’s not just a photoshoot, it’s an experience.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love learning from others! I have invested a lot of time and money into photography-specific workshops over the past few years.
In addition to in-person workshops, I love to read and absorb more information. I have learned a lot from Adventure Instead, a photographer focussed community. I love listening to the Mind Love and the Gold Biz podcasts.
