Community Highlights: Meet Misty Nelson of Mystic Gigi Nails

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Nelson.

Hi Misty, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a single mother of 4 and the owner of Mystic Gigi Nails. I got into doing nails when I was about 12 years old, I took a local nail class and fell in love, that lasted about 1 year until I realized I will never make money at this because I am way too much of a pushover and couldn’t ask people for money, on top of I think I wasn’t that great either LOL.

So I stopped doing nails but have had nails since I was 12 years old and have never been without them. Then recently I got into fluid art and did that for about 2 years and couldn’t make money on the side with this hobby because art is not a necessity, so I just did it on the side, for now, all while working a full-time job.

Then covid hit and I got laid off, I had too much time on my hands LOL. My biggest scare of all was that all salons were closed etc. so I started to panic cause I can’t go without my nails being done LOL, so I started ordering things on Amazon to do my own nails.

It started out as a hobby, then I accumulated so many nail products that my family wanted me to do their nails, and they kept pushing me to do it as a job and that I’m good at it. I started posting content on social media and companies reached out and wanted me to be an affiliate for them to earn commissions and get free products, I said “Yes” of course.

At this point I was also having many life challenges, one was I had no help to get my son (9 years old) to and from school to work a full-time job, and still be a single mom and all the fun single-parent things to make ends meet.

So I just decided this will help solve my problems hopefully, and I got into nail school to become a licensed nail tech, so I can be a mom and make money while doing it because I can make my own schedule, etc.

So I went through school and had a clientele of 15 regular clients 13 months after I started this hobby back in July 2021. Never did I ever think I would be a nail tech all these years later, but it totally suits me because I can do my own nails all day every day lol.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I had too many struggles LOL, I had no job while going through school for nails so I took out loans to pay for living expenses and borrowed from family.

Then while I was getting started my mother died so that threw me for a mental loop real bad, but I managed to keep going and I know my mom would be proud cause she always thought I was good at nails, so I pushed through mainly for her to be proud.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mystic Gigi Nails?
I absolutely love doing nails, my favorite sets are ones that challenge me. I offer everything that could possibly be offered when it comes to nails (I am my only employee) I have a nail printer that will print anything on your nails, and I don’t know of any salons in Utah with this machine (that I know of).

I love to know I also offer everything when it comes to services with nails, I offer all nail types, acrylic (have approx 500 colors available), hard gel, builder gel, luminary gel systems, Polycrylic, poly gel, gel-X, fiberglass extensions, etc.

I also offer over 1,000 gel polish colors, approx. 500+ add-ons of gems, crystals, 3D art, charms, nail piercings, and nail chips (programable) I also offer stamping, airbrushing, foils, encapsulation, alcohol inks, pigments, stickers, glitters, full nail decals, hand paint art and much more.

I get so much satisfaction in just making people happy, I will go above and beyond for my clients/friends that really become family to me. I have a fully stocked coffee bar and snack bar for them so they never get hungry or thirsty while in my care.

What matters most to you? Why?
Honestly, to just make people happy and earn enough money to keep shelter over my family’s heads. I just like happy positive vibes and will do anything to get that feeling and it helps keep my depression away.

Pricing:

  • Acrylic sets start at $35
  • Gel sets start at $40
