Life & Work with Jason Nash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Nash.

Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I’m currently 44-years-old and work as a YouTube Creator. For me…life was fun, and then it wasn’t, but now it’s getting to be fun again!

My childhood experiences have definitely shaped what I value in life. I grew up camping, boating, and going to the beach. Then, during my 20s, I was fairly materialistic. Luckily, I outgrew that pretty quickly as I learned the happiest people in life are curious, adventurous explorers. At the age of 29, I had a mini-stroke and fell into a coma. Even though I’ve always been a healthy person, I ended up having open-heart surgery. The heart infection and surgery followed by chronic stress triggered a condition known as adrenal fatigue. Because of this, my body no longer handles stress very well. After struggling with suicidal thoughts for many years, I decided to do what I love and forget about the paycheck. What I love is exploring and creating. Specifically, I love creating outdoor videos!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Of course it hasn’t been a smooth road. I’m really hard on myself and have given up so many times. Luckily, my YouTube channel slowly gains traction each and every day. The videos I produce are mementos of my journey. It’s so much fun to look back and see where I’ve been. For me, the biggest struggle has been to ignore the negative comments. I’ve learned to simply focus on what I love, which is creating.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

My YouTube channel is called the Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show. I create videos about camping, downhill skiing, traveling, national parks, and hiking, and I even did a camper conversion video series! My downhill skiing and camper conversion videos are the most popular, but some of my national park videos have also done quite well.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’m blazing my own trail. I’m not seeking out video topics to go viral and I’m not following in someone else’s footsteps. I do what I love and love what I do!
