Life & Work with Maria Servin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Servin.

Hi Maria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My passion for photography started when I was little, my parents would buy me disposable cameras and rolls every time it was possible for them and I would capture everything that my eyes would love or be amazed by. I started taking pictures in my great-grandmother’s backyard when I was 8 years old with plants, taking pictures of her when we would be walking down the streets, or just being at home with my family.

But creativity was always present in my eyes. As I started getting older my dad gifted me a small Nikon camera and I would go to the parks and capture little birds, in the fireworks on the 4th of July, or capture my family more to never let go of good memories. Practicing without even knowing and never giving up on what you like is the big key to growth and new opportunities for your future.

With time and practice, I’ve come to the realization that I want to capture all the beautiful things that my eyes are able to experience and show others what my eyes can see in this beautiful world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was raised and born in Mexico City and the economy wasn’t the greatest; my parents were able to provide me with disposable cameras once in a while.

When we came to the US I started working once I turned 16 years old so I could buy myself my own camera and grow with my business but responsibilities come first, I bought my car, paid for school expenses, and helped my family pay for house bills and it was a little impossible for me to get that dreamed camera until the most loving and caring person gifted me the camera of my dreams the day of my birthday and thanks to that little person I’ve been able to pursue what I love.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My photography is Aesthetic and I love the rustic looks, I don’t specialize in anything specific, I love to capture nature or portraits. A lot of people like my photography since I edit them to look natural but aesthetic at the same time. The thing that I’m most proud of is being able to convert something I love into my dream job.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people know that I am a very creative person but one thing not a lot of people know is that I’ve decorated weddings, sweet 16 parties, and themed parties and I make the decorations from scratch so the big moment of the person that I decorated to can love and enjoy the decorations of their choice. I’ve done centerpieces, decorations of venues, backyards, bachelorette parties, surprise-themed parties tables for cake, entrance decorations, etc.
