Meet David Devaney

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Devaney.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is David Devaney, known professionally as Dub Dee, I’m an audio engineer, music producer, and artist. I was born and raised in Southern California near Los Angeles. I am the youngest of 6 kids. I grew up always loving music and did everything I could to be around it. I was playing in bands, Dj’ing, working at dance studios, singing in a choir, and so forth. After high school, I graduated at the top of his class from the acclaimed Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, CA.

After an internship, I began freelancing as an engineer for a couple of years. I first came to Utah in 2007 for a year to produce music and choreograph for a girl pop group that was part of a reality tv show. I later moved back in 2012 and opened my own recording studio and music venue. now 10 years later I have engineered at some of the most prominent studios around the country and have received multiple certified gold records. When I’m not in the studio I work on production for live events, concerts, festivals, and national tours.

My clientele includes Grammy-winning artists, global brands, influencers, and major record labels. Currently, I’m based out of Salt Lake City, UT. I am a proud Dad of two amazing children (a 9-year-old girl, and a 1o-year-old boy) In my free time I enjoy playing sports, hitting the pool or lake, relaxing to a good movie, dancing, live events, and traveling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The music business has always been tough to navigate. Long weeks and late nights building your clientele, people trying to take advantage of you, or the whole industry shutting down for months at a time due to a global pandemic. For every “overnight success,” there are typically thousands of hours and blood sweat, and tears put into that artist or project.

Unfortunately, many of them don’t make it which is a tough mental hurdle to overcome thinking of all your hard work as a failure. When success does come though it makes it all worth it and you realize those hard times are what built your strong foundation to stand on.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an audio engineer and music producer. Clients come into the studio and I help them record their music and make them sound as best as possible with the use of specialized equipment, software, and tools to help record, mix and master their songs so it’s ready to be released to the public. At times I will actually help in the creation process of the music, lyrics, or melodies as well.

The same principles apply when I’m doing a live show, sitting behind the big mixing console with all the buttons, knobs, and faders as I’m Adjusting the various voices and instruments to sound pleasing to the audience. I’m most proud that I have been able to maintain a steady clientele for over 15 years that has not only provided for me but my children as well and has allowed me to travel the world in the process.

I think what sets me apart besides my skill and ability is really paying close attention to the client’s individual needs and catering a personal experience just for them. You would be amazed how far small and simple details really impact their impression of you.
