Today we’d like to introduce you to Front Row Film Roast.
Front Row Film Roast, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We’re a group of comedians that had the idea to bring an in-person, popular movie version of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” with drinking games to SLC. We had a connection at Brewvies Cinema so we began doing monthly film riffs starting in February 2018 with “Twilight” as our first victim. Currently, we are still going monthly and have added themed events like Exmormon riffs, All Women shows and All LGBTQ+ shows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a comedy venture is never easy. It’s always an obstacle trying to convince people to give local comedy shows a chance. Especially since we don’t riff B-Movies like MST3K, we riff recognizable blockbusters like “Star Wars” and “The Lord of the Rings”, people tend to think it won’t be enjoyable since they don’t want to see jokes over a beloved film. The fact is, we love these movies too, and making jokes is how we, as comedians, honor them and find new, fun ways to be entertained by them.

No one else in Utah is doing what we’re doing! Along with being professional riffers (is that even a word? Oh well), we are also professional improvisers and stand-up comedians with another local troupe Crowdsourced Comedy. We pride ourselves on giving a hilarious and unique show every single time. No show is ever dull. And, of course, unlike many other comedy venues in Utah, we aren’t restrained by family-friendly rules and we involve responsible drinking to enhance the fun.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
The regular customers that come to as many shows as they possibly can are what really keep us going and love what we do. We do comedy to make people happy and to bring levity to this terrible world. Without them, we would be nothing!
