Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge De La Barra.
Hi Jorge, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was lucky enough to hire Matthew Sowa for my wedding back in NYC. He was the one who reminded me that I actually was pretty good at photography, back in college. So after the engagement session, I picked up a camera and started shooting. A little while after that, Matthew (already following me on my Facebook page) noticed my passion and craft and he asked me to assist him in some weddings.
Shortly after that, his second photographer moved back to Poland and he replaced him with me. We worked for almost there years and he pretty much helped me polish my work and develop my own style. After this very successful year with him, I made the jump to California where I started my photography business and watch it grow and develop. Now in Utah, after the pandemic, I am bringing it back to life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh, it wasn’t. But I am the kind of person who does not give up that easily. I am very passionate about photography and always crave to learn and improve my craft. COVID-19 was definitely a struggling period.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My style is very different from the rest of the photographers around. I am bold and very creative, and I approach photography as a storyteller. I have a background in fashion photography and other styles, so I always mix up and change hats when I have to. It has become very easy for me through the years.
My favorite subject is people. I am a sucker for love and showing how people love each other. My specialty is making my clients comfortable. I will not stop until I get the shot I am looking for, and most people on the west coast know that. I have incredible reviews and the best relationships with past clients.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The mountains are the best part of Salt Lake City. No matter where do you live in the valley, you will wake up and see how majestic they are. The last thing I like is the summer heat and the air quality I think most people will agree with me on those two.
