Conversations with Jordan Caswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Caswell.

Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I fell in love with music and entertainment when I was a little kid. I would dance on the stairs in my family’s garage with a CD player, singing along, pretending I was a famous pop star on my stadium stage. As a kid, I would also build small haunted houses in our basements.

My love for entertaining kept growing as I got older and started researching, planning, and building haunted houses. This has helped me in my music career with planning, programming lights, stage design, sound engineering, rehearsals, and most importantly the work ethic to not just start, but finish big projects. This didn’t come easy though.

On top of going to school, I was in multiple orchestras, competing in state violin competitions, rehearsing, dancing, and trying to find time to sleep and eat. As much fun as my life sounds now, it took a lot of hard work and practice to get to where I am today, and am still aspiring to do and be more. I’m happy to be able to say I released my first original album, 2 cover albums, and am now performing on Disney Cruise Lines!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I have wanted to give up time and time again. It has cost a lot of money, time, and patience, and some days I still feel like I’m not good enough. I am always working on something new, but have always had a hard time delegating so I do almost all the work myself. Most artists have agents, producers, tour managers, lighting designers, etc.

Something that has helped me along the way is journaling and reading self-health books. It is really important for me to spend time for myself outside of rehearsing so I can be in tune with my needs and maintain good mental and physical health.

Another obstacle I have faced (and I am still facing) in my career is, not always being able to put on a show/perform the way I want to. That can come from not having the financial support to buy or rent the equipment I need, as well as from being booked by a company or individual who has a different vision than I do, etc. Once you’ve “made it,” I assume (and hope) it gets easier to say: “This is how I want the stage to look and sound. And this is how I want to enter the stage. I need this to be fixed, etc.” And have it fixed.

I always have to remind myself that it is about the journey and not the destination. In this field, it is extremely important to have social media to stay relevant, which has its downside. On social media, it is really easy to view celebrities doing something similar to what I am doing (or what I want to be doing) and compare myself to them. When comparing, I always leave out the fact that I probably have $100 million less than whoever I’m comparing myself to.

This can make me really depressed cause it comes right back to the feelings of “Why am I doing this?” “Am I good enough?” “When will I “make it?” When in reality “making it” is all about your mindset. 5-year-old Jordan would look at me now in complete and utter fascination, wishing he could do what I’m doing today! We all have our moments, but I’m glad I have kept working towards my career goals, and won’t be stopping anytime soon!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I used to say I was an Electric Violinist, but I like to use the word “Entertainer” now. I also sing and play guitar and piano. Eventually, I would love to have a show where I can incorporate all of this. I would definitely say I specialize in violin as well as entertaining. I am known for putting on a great show.

Something I’m really proud of is writing, producing, recording, and releasing my first album, Reborn, which you can listen to now on all streaming services! I am also extremely proud to be performing every night and employed at the biggest entertainment company in the world… Disney!

When I play the violin, I also dance at the same time. I have only met a few people who can do this, including Lindsey Stirling. This is something that sets me apart from others, as well as the fact that I do most of the behind the scene” work myself, including recording guitar, piano, and vocals on my own tracks.

What was you like growing up?
Growing up I was still constantly focused on my career, but loved being around friends. I didn’t date much, and I didn’t spend as much time with my family as I should’ve. If there was a way to mix hanging out with my friends, and building something or learning, I was doing it!

If there was anything good that came from the pandemic, it was definitely getting the chance to be around my family more, and time to work on and perfect my craft.
