Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Stolworthy. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Our little shop started as an ice cream truck at the downtown SLC farmers market selling take home pint. We got many requests about a store and expanding into catering – now a year later we built our first retail location ourselves with a lot of hard work and love and opened up in June. We love being in Millcreek as a brick and mortar and still have our ice cream truck for catering and events.
Samantha is a trained pastry chef with over 15 years of culinary experience and loves creating all the unique flavors of ice cream available – she really believes the possibilities are endless!!
Andrew has been in the dairy industry for 15 years and previously owned Boise Milk; where he honed in his skills as an Expert Craft Ice Cream Maker.
We are dedicated to serving the highest quality products and the friendliest service possible! You may also know us from Wasatch Milk Home Delivery and might be one of the 1500 homes that receive weekly farm fresh delivery right to your door from us.
Together we think we make some pretty amazing, tasty ice cream (with currently 30+ signature & rotating flavors!!!).
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not been easy. We are self-funded and built the entire store ourselves. There were a lot of issues with converting the previous business into a food establishment, and we postponed the opening by almost 4 months due to issues with permits. We are technically still in a soft opening as we navigate the market and improve our offerings but plan on having a big grand opening next year. As busy as we are, we also have been facing the hurdles of products shortages, paper shortages, and had to scramble for bigger equipment as we expanded to 7 days a week (this included a 3x capacity ice cream maker, and extra oven and blast freezer). We are fairly busy but would love to get even busier so we can justify opening a second location.
We’ve been impressed with Cream’d Market, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a super premium local Utah ice cream store with a mini farm fresh market – we also sell hot food and snacks. Our ice cream is made in-store using locally sourced ingredients as available. The mix comes from cache valley dairy cows. All the flavors are crafted by our ice cream flavor guru, Samantha.
We are locally owned, and locally sourced. Our ice cream is made in-house and you will often find the owners working behind the counter scooping for you. We also strive for green packaging, most of our packaging is compostable and we offer an unlimited amount of samples with our mini metal spoons.
We are proud of our ice cream and the unique flavors and feel it is one of the best ice creams in Utah.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Samantha has a business background with a master’s in business administration. She has done all of our marketing via social media outreach and finds that it’s the best source of networking. We are also proud of our small business partnerships throughout Utah and the support and networking we can do with other local businesses.
