Meet Joelle Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joelle Taylor.

Hi Joelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been a lover of jewelry and art, rocks, adventures in nature and living a healthy and vibrant life… and 55 North Studio is the embodiment of this.

A few years ago, after a long-time fascination with silversmithing, I decided it was time to dive in. I learned through online tutorials, research, and, ultimately from trial and error. What began purely as a curiosity and hobby, quickly grew into a small business. I am now currently enjoying running my one-woman business here in the desert of Southern Utah and working on my Fine Jewellery Diploma with the London Jewellery Academy. When I’m not in my studio, you can find me adventuring somewhere in nature with my family.

Quality materials, craftsmanship + intention are important to me and this is what my process is founded on. I love the process of bringing high-quality healing gemstones and metals together in a beautiful and unique way and then infusing them with personalized healing Reiki to give my customers a truly unique piece of wearable art.

“55 North” holds a lot of personal meaning and experiences but, simply, “55” embodies the idea and energy of adventure, personal freedom and positive life change. The “North” is all about following your personal compass and being true to yourself and your journey. These two concepts very much describe my own journey, and by going with that flow, I now find myself here, completely fulfilled and creating one-of-a-kind healing jewelry that I hope will allow others, as well as myself, to feel free, expressive, empowered, and connected… to our best selves and others.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’m always pushing my limits. Growth happens outside our comfort zones. And with that obviously comes a lot of challenges. Good challenges. Those “character” and “patience” building challenges. Every day, I feel I’m learning something new. Beyond learning the metal-smithing skills, running a one-woman business is equally challenging. Outside of my running my small business, I work on keeping a healthy balance between business, health and exercise, my personal education and family time. I soak up every moment I can with them. When we’re not working or doing school, you will find us having some sort of adventure in nature. We love mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, camping… pretty much anything outdoors.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the moment, I specialize in Silversmithing with healing semi-precious gemstones. I work a lot with Turquoise as well as other semi-precious gemstones, Sterling Silver, Fine Silver and gold-fill. I’m expanding my skills and working more with precious stones, gold and casting in a variety of metals. I love every opportunity I get to create something extra special that holds a lot of sentimental value: custom wedding ring sets, memorabilia, mama ring sets, special occasion gifts.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Live life. All of it. Embrace every moment with those special people in your life. Get out and explore. Learn the skills you’ve always wanted to learn. Do the things you’ve always wanted to do. Where will your 55 North take you?
