Today we’d like to introduce you to Beki Tobiasson.
Hi Beki, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved creating! Art has always been in my heart, but when I had three children in 3 1/2 years, and then five more, they took all of my attention. So Art had to wait. For 23 years, I what 100% mom. When I was finally finished with diapers And not pregnant again, I had all this time and energy and wondered if maybe, I could paint again. I started attending Portrait paint nights with my friends who had continued on with art, it was an extremely humbling experience! They had excelled and I had digressed, tears, humiliation and determination spurred me on.
It has been almost 4 years now, Art has become an obsession. I cannot get enough. I Want to learn it all, I want to paint portraits, hands, storms, skies, anything with drama, emotion, or that touches the heart.
Life can be extremely difficult, hard things always come, but so do beautiful things. I create art to remind people that hard things can’t last forever, the sun eventually comes out and the beauty is 100 times more than it was before.
Light always conquers darkness, peace always follows sorrow, these are reminders that we all need when we feel that there is no hope.
Creating my family is the best thing I have ever done, creating art that helps people remember the beautiful quiet moments is the second best thing I have done.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trying to fit Art in when you have eight children, six of which are still at home, is a comical adventure. I get my paints ready, pick up my brush and it’s time to run a child to dance, or pick up a child from driver’s ed, or soccer.
Sometimes I Jokingly say I work graveyards because the only time I can truly settle in and relax enough to paint portraits, is after everybody is asleep, and nobody is awake to need me.
So my best paint time is from 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM. And I paint those hours more often than I should.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am extremely ADHD, My way of dealing with that is to have at least five different things going on at the same time. I work on whatever project fits my mood for the day, or more likely hour. So when I’m super moody and need to get some good emotions out, I paint huge storms, or extremely dramatic sunsets. Once that is out of my system, I can sit and paint very detailed hands that have just as much emotion, and tell a story.
Portraits, mother-child scenes or something that reaches deep into the soul l are my favorites. I love to paint things that touch the heart. I could never paint enough feeling.
The one theme that seems to find It’s was over and over again, is that light always shines through the darkness. There is beauty in sorrow, and there is a strength that comes from heaven.
This is my message, and I hope that it touches and helps others through their life’s journey.
What makes you happy?
Two things, Time with my family! And painting! I have a crazy industrious Entrepreneurial family, there is always some huge project, or adventure in the works, sometimes two or three. It is truly an Exhausting adventure to keep up with my family and all of the things that they want to accomplish and do.
Painting Takes a very close second, it is therapy for me. It is a healthy, safe place to download all my redheaded emotions,. If you’ve ever heard any redhead clichés, I fit all of them, I can say my family is extremely appreciative That art is absorbing some of my passion. Painting, and creating truly brings me joy!
