Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Martin.
Hi Kimberly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved people. I love listening to people and hearing their stories, but above all, I have loved to help those around me rise above what they thought was possible. Compassion comes naturally to me, and growth is exciting.
I have been a therapist for 22 years, and have spent every day of my career helping families and individuals to gain better connections to their mental health. I never tire of helping those who struggle. I provide real and supportive therapeutic services to adults and children of all ages. After working for a large national mental health provider for many years, I am so glad I can now provide the individual attention each of my clients deserves in my own mental health practice.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, life has struggles, careers have struggles, and families have struggles. However, I am a person who can be very real yet very hopeful about my future and the future of those around me.
At times when I have struggled, I have thought about my grandmother who lived in The Netherlands through World War II. She was a young mother of 3 children at the time. There was such daily insecurity about food and safety. It was hard to determine who to trust or even to count on what tomorrow would bring. Cities were getting bombed, and airplanes would fly over. She never complained about her life situation through the war, and she was amazingly resilient. She taught me to enjoy the moment, to appreciate all good things that come to you and to remain genuine and enjoy the moment.
When I started to consider my move to Lehi and starting True Life Counseling Group, I knew it was the right thing to do. I feel very blessed that I was able to find so many great people on my path when I started my business. Finding an office in such a central location and being at the Alpine Clinic with so many different specialties, who show such respect and admiration for one another is a true blessing, I could not have imagined this when I started to consider moving into my office in Lehi/Highland.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have always loved art. The journey of creation is empowering. Working as a therapist requires you to be creative, to always be prepared to find the tools for your clients to help them succeed. Each person is different, with different needs. Adapting to the client and their needs is fulfilling and it fills my heart. The authentic personal stories and journeys I get to be a part of are sacred experiences for me.
In my mental health practice, I offer play therapy for children and teens. I also have an art space where those who are stuck can explore the power of creation during their therapy session. Talking and doing, creating and experiencing are healing to the soul.
When new clients come to the office, they are often surprised at how serene the waiting room is, while at the same time providing comfort and an at-home atmosphere to connect with themselves and those in their families.
The therapeutic approach True Life Counseling Group offers is inclusive, creative, holistic and genuine. Therapy should never be boring and dull, it can be exciting and should facilitate growth for the whole person.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck, bad luck, fortune, or bad fortune. Sometimes luck is created, and sometimes luck falls into your lap.
I meet a lot of people with really bad luck, and sometimes it’s due to their own doing, sometimes due to nothing they ever did.
Some cannot seem to overcome the emotions associated with their bad luck, some are looking to gain strength from their bad luck and learn the good things this world has for them.
Often emotions and luck are like a grandfather’s clock pendulum, there is an upside on both sides of the swing. It is a matter of recognizing it and knowing what to do with it. Experiences and the ability to access tools is what create success in a person’s life.
I do feel like I have worked hard for what I have, but rather than feel lucky, I feel grateful. Being grateful creates opportunities to create joy and meaning in my life.
