Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Woodbury.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a photographer all my life. I started off when I was young. I remember the days of having a disposable camera is my primary camera and I remember the days of having disposable flash bulbs.
I grew up in Idaho and spent most of my time playing sports or camping hunting fishing.
I served in an LDS mission to the Philippines in 2001 and came home and graduated from BYU.
I started a business, Pointe Pest Control, in 2006 in Chicago and DC and sold it in March 2022 for just under $100 million. All along the way, I have enjoyed taking pictures of nature and LDS temples.
This is the short version of my life. If you have any more interest, let me know.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I highly doubt anyone you interview will admit that.
Some of the biggest struggles have included being away from home for months at a time. My employees making more money than I did for a period of time, some of the most difficult struggles have included learning how to balance between being a boss, and being a good friend to my employees.
I lost my mother to cancer while she was still young and that has been a difficult thing for me and still is to this day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I got started in photography when summit owed me some money. Instead of giving me money, they gave me what turned out to be stolen camera equipment from the Russian mafia.
One thing about my work is that I strive to find unique angles and capture viewpoints that are rarely seen. One of my favorite things is when people tell me, they have never seen a temple photo from the angle I took.
