Community Highlights: Meet Matthew Lajeunesse of Tandem BASE Moab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Lajeunesse.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Starting “Tandem BASE Moab” has been a long, careful process. It’s also been a heck of a lot of fun. Collectively, we have worked around skydiving and BASE jumping in every way possible and accumulated over 30,000 parachute jumps. We have travelled the world, competed in world championships, worked on movies, and taken thousands of people on their first jumps. We have been visiting Moab regularly since 2007, but made it home in 2017. At that point, it was obvious to us that it was the perfect destination for tandem BASE jumping and we could assemble a team with experience that is unmatched.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Tandem BASE Moab is happy to say that it has been “a smooth road.” More importantly, it has been a safe road. In fact, our safety record extends throughout the entirety of our jumping careers.

One struggle that we have to operate around is wind. Wind is something that can prevent us from completing tandem BASE jumps with clients. We have learned to watch weather patterns and communicate with customers about the potential for wind. Lucky for us, many months of the year are wind free in Moab.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a BASE jumping guide service that specializes in taking clients on their first jumps. We have experience that is unmatched anywhere in the world. We learned to tandem BASE jump from Sean Chuma, one of the people that helped invent tandem BASE jumping. He is also the most experienced person in the world when it comes to this type of jumping. Aside from our experience, we have a long history of being reputable, professional, safe, and fun.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Sailing, fishing, hunting, hiking, or anything that got me excited about the outdoors and nature.
