Life & Work with Liesel Crystal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liesel Crystal.

Hi Liesel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was in high school, I was involved with the Future Farmers of America program. One of the classes I chose to take was floriculture, I discovered that I not only had a knack for creating unique floral designs but I really enjoyed the design process. I have always taken pictures of my work for my portfolio and have had a passion for photography and capturing beautiful moments in life since I was young. After showing the photos to a few people, I had friends and family asking me for holiday centerpieces, wedding bouquets, boutonnieres, wrist corsages for prom and floral designs for birthdays and anniversaries. l was asked by several friends to take individual and family photos as well which is why I merged my two passions together. I created my logo and came up with my business name Twisted Lotus Floral and Photography. A few years later while working at Talisker Club which is a private Country Club in Park City, I was asked to do themed floral arrangements for each of their clubhouse locations.

Since then I have done a few weddings, funerals, photography sessions and more. I work part time at home for a local jeweler, which has given me more time to focus on continuing to build my business. l’ve recently had some amazing opportunities presented to me this year – this interview is one of them, another being that I was asked to put together a few fall pieces for Country Gardens & Nursery in Heber City for their fall festival. Everyone loved my arrangements and I sold all my designs, after seeing my work the owner asked if I would create centerpieces for their appreciation banquet honoring all their vendors. I was asked if I would be interested in working with them on several fun projects: I am very excited to announce that CGN and Twisted Lotus Floral & Photography are currently creating a series of floral classes that I will be teaching beginning in 2023!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had a few bumps in the road since starting this journey. Being from a small town in Utah I have had to be creative and unique with all my arrangements and projects to set myself apart from others in the industry. I am continually adapting my marketing to set myself apart from others, it is sometimes difficult to do so but I am always making adjustments. COVID also came with setbacks on projects I had scheduled, rebounding from those setbacks has been challenging. I was also pregnant during COVID and now being a mother also brings its own struggles to running a business. I deeply love what I do and seeing the light in people’s eyes when they receive an arrangement or when they see the final product from a photo session makes all the challenges I face worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Florist who specializes in centerpieces for everyday, special occasions, holiday arrangements, and elopements.

I am also a photographer who specializes in portraits, family, birth, newborn, nature and of course elopements.

I am proud of myself for staying strong and not giving up when things got hard, I am excited for new opportunities and to see what the future holds for my business.

A few of the things that set me apart from others is the fact that I do both floral and photography. I love creating unique floral designs for my customers as well as capturing the special moments in life that we all love and treasure.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I had to learn how to market my business and advertise to fit the changes that came along with COVID
