Inspiring Conversations with Will Garner of Wild Willy’s Bike Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Garner.

Hi Will, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been working in the corporate world for the last 15 years in operations and project management. I had a natural knack for it and was successful. It paid the bills but it wasn’t my passion. I’d always been interested in motorcycles but while raising a family, never seemed to have an abundance of extra money to buy one. Finally, about 5 years back, I had an opportunity to buy an old junker motorcycle. I worked on it myself to fix it up and ride it learning along the way. I found that I had just as much fun working on motorcycles as I did riding them. So I started a little side hobby of fixing up, selling and trading old junker bikes. I reached a breaking point where I couldn’t stand the corporate world anymore, working at a computer with endless meetings became more and more like torture. I kept working on my side business with motorcycles nights and evenings. Finally a moment arrived when I realized I was making comparable money with my part time hobby business with motorcycles as I was with my full time soul sucking corporate job. So I took the plunge and quit my normal job and sunk my life savings into opening a motorcycle shop. I haven’t looked back since and am loving it! Now I spend my days fixing customer bikes, or building my own custom bikes. The business has even grown enough to where I have had to hire several of my own employees.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has NOT been a smooth road at all. I don’t specialize in a specific type of motorcycle, but all. Every customer has a different kind so I’m always learning and growing. I’ve worked on cruiser bikes, dirt bikes, bullet bikes, 4-wheelers, ATVs, scooters and snowmobiles. I’ve worked on Honda, Harley, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Qlink, old school carburetors as well as newer fuel injected.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wild Willy’s Bike Shop`?
Wild Willy’s Bike Shop is the only licensed and registered motorcycle shop in the Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs area. We work on a lot of different styles including cruisers, sports bikes, dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, 3-wheelers, ATVs and snowmobiles. I’m known for having reasonable prices and among the best in the state for carburetor work. Brand wise I love our logo of a she-devil, we pride our shop on being fun, with a little more adult humor than you would find in your typical job. We do good work at fair prices.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Social media, KSL ads and not being shy about leaving my business card on every motorcycle I see parked, or introducing myself to every biker I see at a gas station. I don’t worry so much about having perfect advertising as I do about having more quantity. Taking action and executing is more important than being perfect.
