Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Bravo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started knitting when I was a little girl. Then for many years, I stopped doing it, thinking I was not good at it. When I became a mom, I crocheted again, doing a few things occasionally, making shoes or dresses for my children. When the pandemic began, I needed something to distract myself, and I took up crochet again and began to learn new techniques; that is how I got into Amigurumi. One Christmas, I wanted to have a nativity, but with three small children, I couldn’t because they would break it. So I thought I could weave one, and that’s how I created my first amigurumi nativity. I uploaded a photo of my nativity to social media, and my friends loved it and encouraged me to create a brand and an Instagram page just for my creations. That’s how @kindgurumi began. I love what I do, and I love being such a perfectionist that each of my creations is perfect. My favorite thing about my creations is seeing that my happy customers love what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like all paths, mine has been full of ups and downs, but I have never given up. The biggest challenge has been trusting myself and realizing that my limits are in my mind and that I can do a great job. Another challenge is time because sometimes, with my children, I don’t have all the time I want to dedicate to knitting, but I have always been on time with my orders.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in the Amigurumi technique, which is a Japanese technique that consists of weaving small stuffed animals using crochet techniques. My most requested creation is the nativity. These may be liked by a collector or by a family with children. I am proud of everything I have achieved, learned, and improved. That I no longer have limits, you just need to send me a photo, and I will make it come true.
It set me apart because I will never deliver a product that I don’t like. If I don’t like it, I will have to take it apart and re-knit 20 times until they are perfect.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always an introverted, curious, creative girl with a lot of imagination. I have always been a perfectionist, and I get frustrated when something doesn’t go as expected. That is why my mother took me to different craft courses since I was little, including fabric painting, macramé, wood painting, and crochet, the latter being the one I have loved all my life.
