Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryce Didericksen.
Hi Bryce, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up around craftsmen and builders. My dad was a finish carpenter and most of my friend’s parents were in some form of residential remodeling or maintenance. As a kid, I had lots of opportunities to work in different trades and, in my free time, built everything from forts, to skateboard ramps, to guitars. As a young adult, I started seriously working in construction/remodeling for a long-time friend who was a general contractor. Working for him, I had the opportunity to work around all the different trades that go into building a beautiful home. I learned from many skilled tradesmen and eventually worked my way into management. After a few years, I wanted to go out on my own and live closer to family, so we moved from Kansas City, Missouri to Layton. We are a small company which allows us to provide attention to detail and a personable experience. It’s been great working for the people here in Davis County and surrounding areas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am a craftsman at heart. I could be happy working in my garage building or tinkering every day. Learning to run a business has never been natural for me. However, my wife is a huge help and whenever I get overwhelmed, she is there to help make sure we get the taxes done and keep licenses current.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always liked to do things myself. I love trying to make things that I should probably just go buy: from building my own guitars as a teen to wrapping my own truck (that went poorly), to Cerakoting my own firearms (that turned out pretty well). I’ve never been hesitant to just get into something and see if I can do it. I was able to learn how to make homes beautiful by learning from tradesmen who were better than me. I was never afraid to ask questions, watch others, and try new ways of doing things.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is if you take care of people the way you would like to be taken care of they will reciprocate. Sometimes that small job, that doesn’t seem like it would matter much, can turn into more work and lasting relationships for years to come. The person who referred me to VoyageUtah was a small bathroom remodel bid that I didn’t think I was going to get. It turned into more opportunities and a lasting relationship.
